What made their performance today even more remarkable was that they lost to Werribee by in Round six by 124 points – so today was a 218 point turnaround. From the outset the Dolphins ran hard, got a lot of drive out of their back half and played a physical game of footy. They also played on at every opportunity to get the ball forward quickly. Marcus Marigliani kicked three first quarter goals, and not only provided a very good marking target, but one who could create plenty of trouble when the ball hit the deck. Peter Greenstreet held onto plenty of strong marks up the ground, and had the better of his opponent Lochlan Veale. Cameron Wight belted the ball effectively for the Tigers at a few of the centre bounces, but the Dolphins on ball bridage were generally very good. At quarter time the Dolphins led by 36 points. Werribee’s biggest problem seemed to be that they fell down up forward. Cameron Mahoney was plonked up forward, but delivery to him was poor, and the big fella wouldn't be the best when the ball hits the deck. Simon Potter had to present a long way from his home at centre half forward on the long Frankston ground. For Frankston, Neil Winterton’s attack on the footy was outstanding, while Linden Fredericks was one of many players to lead the way in applying defensive pressure. Adam Hunter was blind turning and spinning his way out of trouble, as Werribee failed to put much pressure on at all. At half time the Dolphins led by 66 points. Micky Turner was trying hard for the Bees, but Frankston continued to play the game as if they were sitting on the top of the ladder – not the bottom. At ¾ time the margin was 67 points. Werribee were told by their coach to play in front during the last quarter (and any player who didn’t would be dragged), as well as get numbers to the contest. Paul Minchington kicked an early goal for the Dolphins in the last, then Marigliani took a mark on the lead and kicked another – his opponent was dragged. If getting flogged wasn’t bad enough for the Tigers, a nasty shoulder injury to Luke Guerra midway through the last quarter, and then Brad Wight being reported with five minutes to go made the day even worse. Cameron Wight had already been sitting on the bench with a corkie. The Dolphins ran out winners by 94 points. Frankston centre half forward Mark Holt was missing after being suspended for two matches last round, while the melee that followed afterwards apparently cost the clubs involved some $$$.
