Bayanda Sobetwa joined Greater Western Sydney in 2010, becoming the first player recruited to Australia from the AFL South Africa program, notionally to an AFL club (although GWS are yet to fully join the AFL). With FootyWILD in many ways the AFL's flagship international program there must also have been a degree of pressure for Sobetwa to perform.

PORT Melbourne has a new Skipper.

As in not a new captain, but the delisted Hawthorn ruckman.

Wayde Skipper trained with the Boroughs last night and has committed to them for 2011.

"WE'VE only got sausage rolls left, love," Joan Round said as the Leader approached the Port Melbourne canteen last Saturday.

We were seeking not fare, but a photo of the ladies who prepare and serve it in Borough land.

They are a hardy bunch.

Together, the women have put in more than 300 years of voluntary service to the club.

Joan Round, Heather Wale, Jean Schinck, Margaret Addicoat and Joyce Dermott (the mother of legendary 1970s and 80s defender Greg "Biff" Dermott) are Port Melbourne life members and proud of it. Jenny Tserkezidis and Dianne Perazzo are probably heading the same way.

WILLIAMSTOWN coach Peter German and Port Melbourne coach Gary Ayres have called for an overhaul of Liston Trophy voting.

German believes the 3-2-1 voting system could cost one of his star Seagulls the award tonight award, while Ayres said the emergency umpire was better equipped to cast the votes.

The VFL uses the same voting system for its top individual award as used for the Brownlow Medal, with the three field umpires awarding votes to the best three players.

THE final score at TEAC Oval on Saturday amply demonstrated the contrasting seasons of the VFL's stand-alone teams.

Port Melbourne, a 116-point winner, is heading for a qualifying final, probably against its great rival Williamstown at Box Hill's City Oval.

PORT Melbourne won in a romp, but suffered a heavy casualty as it picked apart Geelong at TEAC Oval on Saturday.

Ace left-footer Steve Brewer reinjured his hamstring and his ability to play again this season must be in doubt.

The defender was returning to the side after a three-week absence. He played in the reserves last week.

"He was devastated after the game, extremely emotional," coach Gary Ayres said.

"But as I said to him, we'll be doing everything we can to keep winning and give him the time to get it right."
