Today's game v the Zebras
Body:
Port only summary. Seniors: Sandringham 1.3.9, 6.10.46, 9.12.66, 13.15.93 Port Melbourne 2.5.17, 2.6.18, 5.10.40, 13.13.91 Reserves: (missed the first quarter) Sandingham 6.5.41, 9.6.42, 7.7.49 Port Melbourne 8.10.58, 16.15.111, 22.16.148 Seniors: A fast finishing Port Melbourne fell 2 points short of the Zebras in a scrappy game with lots of skill errors. Sandringham kicked 5 goals to none in the second quarter, and it looked like a case of "how far" the Zebras might go on and win it by. However, Port rallied in the second half, playing a more direct style of football, that provided better opportunities for Ports talls in the forward line. Sam Dwyer and Dean Kelly also made their presence felt around the base of the packs when the ball went to ground-level. Bonaddio also spent more time in the ruck and performed well. Both Fanning and Bona are looking in good nick, while Bloomfield spent time at CHF. The final term raised in intensity, as both sides were able to make the most of center square breaks and post quick goals. In particular the Zebras nailed several shots with the wind outside 50. Lynden Dunne copped a knock early in the game and took no further part in the game. In the Reserves, Robin Nahas did well finishing with 3 goals, and was involved in setting up several more. Rees Thomas looked terrific, taking a lot of contested marks around the HF line. Defensively, Paul Fermanis was excellent, setting up a lot of play out of the back line with good disposal. Young tall Dean Francis also spent time forward and finished with 3 or 4 goals in an ecouraging display. Next weeks game against Frankston looks like it may be moved due to the condition of the ground, so keep an eye out for news on the alternate venue.
