VFL Keen to be rules Guinea Pig
Body:
From the MX newspaper
The VFL wants to be used as a rules proving ground for the AFL and has at least three changes it wants to bring in as soon as next year. Victorias second-tier football compeition adopted the new AFL lats last month, including time limits for goalkicking, But VFL boss Martin Stillman said there were other changes the competition wanted to make and it had lobbied the AFL to let them bring them in. He said the VFL was the perfect place to test changes with the competition able to trial them for longer thand just the AFL pre-season competition. "We went to the AFL with several items before the rule changes were made, and some of the ones they brought in were on our list." Stillman said. "But there were two or three others we wanted to being in from next year. We have left them with the AFL." "It could give a greater perspective on how to administer them over a full season, rather than in limited games." Stillman wouldn't reveal exact details of any changes the VFL wanted to bring in, but he said they wouldn't be too dramatic. "Maybe kicking the ball backwards anywhere other than inside the forward 50m would be play on." he said. Stillman said he hoped to have an answer from the AFL before Christmas. -Russell Gould
