VFL R6 - Northern Bullants V Port Melbourne
Body:

Make or break for both clubs.

I actually think Port are playing some decent footy (definitely better than the ladder position of 20th would suggest.

Fraser Rosman the very handy inclusion for Port.

Phew!

Not without a fright.  I'll post my thoughts when I can be a ml it more analytical.

I honestly thought we would be overrun so that I'm greatly relieved that the boys responded well.

AA has been involved down on the bench while he's been injured.

Looking forward to his return to add some much needed run to the side.

The Bullants took it right up to Port and certainly weren't playing the quality of footy that deserves to be 21st on the ladder.  Perhaps only some skill level errors cost them in the end.

Highlights for me were three absolute speccies taken by Preston. They certainly backed themselves in, and you could not fault their endeavour or work rate.

For Port, we were not as dominate at the centre clearances as I had hoped, but the Billy Gowers show was worth the price of admission, kicking a goal from. 45 out on the outside of the boot after giving a great fend off to break the grip of tackler only for him to swivel and goal.

His set shot go in the last quarter from the 50m arc in front of the kiosk sent the Borough faithful berserk and Port got the 4 points on the day.

I think a loss to Preston would have seen the coach come under huge pressure given it being the least start to the season for over 100 years.

Next weeks game against Coburg will be another tough game... With the Lions very competitive against Richmond this weekend.

The Friday night clash against Coburg last year few possibly the snakes crowd I have ever seen at a Port home game. Hopefully this week's win gets a few more through the gate on Friday.

Congrats to Port on breaking the duck.....must be hugely disappointing for the Ants supporters given how they had worked themselves back into it after quarter time, only to capitulate. You are right about Coburg, they served it right up to our blokes who were playing well. It took a lot of nerve to hold them at bay. Should be an interesting game to watch on Friday night.

Matthew Elliot, whose son plays for Preston and took a big hanger in the goal square at the city end of the ground
