The Werribee playing surface
Body:
This is probably the topic of the week (or will be anyway) for two reasons. Firstly someone was out on the ground with a hose watering the centre circle prior to the senior game today. When some rain then fell and the umpires had to throw the ball up in the centre because the middle is too soft it didn't look that good. I dare say the VFL will ask a few questions about that. And secondly, someone had spray painted the playing surface with green paint during the week to cover up what is pretty much brown grass. From a TV picture point of view it probably looked better, but players looking like the Incredible Hulk isnt necessary, nor is the need for them to spend considerable time scrubbing after a game to wash it all off. Plus the less paint on the ground the better because we dont want it getting in players eyes, or worse into cuts that may occur throughout a game. Perhaps the next priority should be to resurface the ground rather than worry about all the other stuff they seem to be spending their money on down there such as new turnstiles and paths.
