From a VFL perspective, it's hard to see any real surprises there. Cornelius was really the only junior stand-out from the Devils this season, and good to see Jason Davenport get a much deserved second chance. Such a strong, deep draft - I'd have been more than a little surprised should anyone other than those two been picked in the main draw. On the other hand, the Rookie Draft in a couple of weeks will be a big show for the VFL. With rookie lists being expanded by two places next season, I reckon we can expect to see a fair few VFL names get picked up there. (Since 2000, there's never been a year where fewer than five VFL players get picked up in the Rookie Draft. Some years it's been as many as nine, and it could head in that direction again this year.)

I recon there will be 10+ VFL players get rookie listed. Afew clubs decided to pass on there last picks so there could be an outside of VFL players taken in the pre season draft as well

It'll be interesting to see who gets picked first. Obviously Nahas was the one talked up for a lot of the year, but perhaps his late season form and then missing the state screening with injury sealed his fate as a rookie chance only. Frankston should have one, maybe two. Williamstown have promised the Bulldogs that they'll pay half of Liam Picken's salary if they rookie him (see the latest Seagulls newsletter on their website). Given the Dogs position, I expect that will happen. Danny Hughes was initially rookie listed by Melbourne from Sandringham before being delisted at the end of 2007. But he's back there training again at Melbourne. As is Shane Tregear from the Zebras. One might be a chance there. Collingwood may well look at one of their VFL listed players - Frost perhaps? I'd have to agree with MinkaBeaver, I could see perhaps 8 guys getting a shot this year.

The AFL clubs will rip the guts out of the VFL with rookies. Still a strong believer that the rookies should still play their games with the club that they came from. Anyone agree...?

We might be from the bush. but we ain't green

Anyone agree...?[/quote] Agree in theory but disagree in practice, too much conflict of interest, it would mean 3 clubs trying to have a say in how 1 club runs/plays etc. When Victoria is down to 6 AFL clubs, and a strong 14 team VFL competition that's when it may work  similar to how the SANFL use it, but at the moment the amount of AFL listed players in the VFL is far too many for anything like that.

Are they the other states that have only 2 AFL teams?
