TBO Concrete Fence
I am in Qld enjoying the sunshine (albeit cool after the sun goes down). My spy has informed me that in recent days the concrete fence around the Trevor Barker Over has been knocked down. Does anyone have any info. I thought the concrete fence added to the character of TBO. I would not like to see it replaced by cyclone wire

Dang! Was just having a look at it a few weeks ago! One of the last surviving of those walls . . . punt road, junction oval . . . it was falling down, but i hate cool old things being discarded. Legend has it the fence was only finished on the morning of Sandys first game in the VFA. I dont think the council will have the balls to pull the fence down any time soon. I think there is nothing worse than those see through cyclone wire mesh fences at some grounds it gives a very poor impression of the comp. In the past both Willy and Port had metal fences around them and IMHO it gave those grounds a much better atmosphere. Williamstowns ground has lost a lot of its charm since the old fence was pulled down and replaced by the wire one.Willy also used to fly all their flags on match days from the flagpoles on the Grandstand and from another very large flagpole near the bay wing. It was quite a sight.

:D After many years of asking the council to pay attention to the poor condition of the concrete fence and entrance gates with some cover to protect from rain ,it is all now happening. Sections of the fence wil be removed and steel bars will replace the open sections so people and car traffic will be able to see into the TBO hopefully giving a better view of what is happening behind the former concrete walls. All to the benefit of the Sandringham Football Club and the public and ratepayers. When finished ?? it should all look better and more open and inviting. go zebs zebra.

The only question I have is why they are doing it now? Sandringham Zebras still have four home games this year, two of them on the TV. It looks ugly while all the construction is happening and also means that the whole wing is fenced off so patrons have to watch the footy from other positions on the ground. Considering nothing much happens at the ground from October through til March suely that wouldve been a more suitable time for the repairs to take place!

:D Footyman, this is a Bayside Council project so Sandy Footy Club wanted this done preseason (Febuary)so if the work starts now we cannot stop them and only hope it does not interfere with football spectators too much. If you know anything about how most councils work then you will understand ,any work ,anytime is a big plus. go zebs zebra

Just a shame councils don't co-operate a bit more then isnt it!
