Here's a great piece by on the Sandy scoreboard on scoreboardpressure.com, featuring VFLfooty's own Zebra! Some other VFA scoreboards featured if you have a search around too. Lovely piece.

Have played a fair few games on that ground in the late 80's and early 90's and always had two little bastards who were doing the scoreboard during the game yell out abuse and tried putting me all the time when I was lining up for goal at that end of the ground. Apart from that I love the old style scoreboards and Sandy's is no different.

Great story on John.

Great pickup Stanga. Some of the old scoreboards are relics.
Zebraman is definately part of the furniture at Beach Road Oval. Loyal stalwarts like John are part of the footy culture and is what makes a footy club.
Will get to a game at Beach Road later in the year and catch up with Zebraman, Black Rocker, Zebra Dave and co. Will have a few ales at the social club. I can get to Sandringham's home game against Casey later in the season.

Actually the original scoreboard was where the social club stands now and was on a quite high hill it was demolished when the social club was built in the early 1970s.

It was probibly one of the largest in the VFA and was from memory much bigger that the present one.

I wonder if anyone has any pics of the old scoreboard.

TBO up till the 1970s had quite good enbankments all around the ground but some idiot on the Sandy Council deemed them unsafe and they were leveled out as an example the one at the Sandy end was higher than the old concrete fence.

Can't really picture the old scoreboard at Beach Road. Have vague recollections only. Would love to see any photos of it. Better still if there was an old channel 0 game around when the old scoreboard was there would be even better.
Zebra, Zebraman, Black Rocker do you have any old photos with the old scoreboard ?
