Billy,

stay tuned on the local footy show where they will show some footage from the 1938 Brunswick v Brighton GF. I haven't seen this myself as yet but I believe it will be on in the next few weeks. Will keep you informed.

Not sure how much footage there is of the 1938 GF but even a few minutes would be gold. Amazing how this sort of footage is now bobbing up.
It will be viewing within the next 2/3 weeks I've been told.
Also got hold of a couple of old reels that has audio only.
Will have to find a way to convert it to CD. Apparently it has some VFA games from the late 40s early 50s. Could be a couple of games on reels from an old radio station around Essendon area. One of the reels has also 3UZ written on it which will have a radio series on it or whatever they use to show back on those days.
Would have been a different world pre TV days.
Will of course upload this once I can convert it to CD. Might need the expertise of Station Hotel to help out here.

vfa. 3AK did also broadcast VFA games in the 1950s Tom Lahiff was one of the commentators.

They also had a show on Sat mornings about VFA footy.

3KZ also did some VFA clubs for their Kia Ora Sports Parade I remember Sandy having at least one at the Memorial Hall. They would normally be held at the teams local Town Hall.

The show was something like the current Footy Show on CH9 a bit of fun from the players in skits (usually dressed up as women)or singing and a panel discussing footy.

So nothing is new under the sun!

back to the topic...

That's a massive drop off in viewing figures. Do you think it is related to the support these clubs have, or other factors?

I suppose the first question is whether those figures are an average audience, or a 'peak' figure. I'd like to see a 'peak' number....how many people tune in for example during the last quarter. Or how many tune in between 1pm and 3pm before the AFL coverage starts on Seven.

The weather was fairly good last Saturday, we'd had two very wet days Thursday and Friday so by Saturday I'd say people were out and about. I'm sure on a cold and wet Saturday afternoon, the ABC would attract more viewers.

As I've said before, unfortunately Saturday's at 1pm are just not a great time to attract viewers. Too many people are doing other things. Ideally the VFL TV game would be on a Sunday at 1pm, plenty of young blokes at home on the couch recovering from a hangover and wanting to watch some footy.
