Frantic finish to the development [reserves] game.
Frankston led for most of the day only to lose the lead at the 15 min of the last quarter. Against the breeze the Dolphins regained the lead when Damien Johnson marked strongly in the goal square with only a few minutes remaining on the clock.
Casey reduced the margin to 5 pts and with ball just inside their attacking 50 and seconds on the clock a holding the ball decision was paid against the Dolphins Jarrad Caprion. At best it was 30-70 decision and the siren sounded as the Casey player was going back to have the kick, much to the amazement of everyone at the ground, Michael Johnson was called in by the umpire to take the kick, amazing as he wasn't the player who had tackled Caprion, Johnson goaled and Casey won by 1 pt.
Some really bizarre umpiring decisions in this match. No doubt umpiring is a tough gig but the standard of umpiring at development level should concern AFL Victoria.
Couldn't agree more.
