Slammin Sammy Says
Northern Blues VAFA

Firstly this is not Northern Blues bashing.

Interesting to see that the Northern Blues Amatuers will enter a senior team in the VAFA in 2013 in Division 4 (really Division 7)

http://www.vafa.com.au/index.php?id=219&tx_ttnews%5Byear%5D=2012&tx_ttne...

It seems the Amatuer club is an extension into senior ranks of the Preston Bullants Junior Football Club so would it make sense to call them the Preston Bullants Amatuers as there are now two Northern Blues in senior competitions - admittedly at vastly different levels?

What is the connection between the Northen Blues (VFL) and the Northern Blues (VAFA)?

Do all three clubs (Preston Bullants Junior Football Club, Northen Blues (VFL) and Northern Blues (VAFA)) come under the same banner or do they operate as separate entities?

Its an interesting development - reminds me of the North Ballarat Junior Football Club and it's journey to getting a senior team in the Ballarat FL via playing a couple of seasons in the Bendigo FL as North City.

The photo shows red Northern Blues jumpers complete with Carlton's monogram. It looks like another Carlton controlled team.

If Preston (Bullants) have their so called juniors extended to the VAFA then Carlton should have no connection whatsoever in Amateur ranks. Disgraceful !!!

bullants

Preston Bullants Junior Football Club was formed after a Preston RSL Junior Football Club folded. Despite there being some impact on local junior sides it was an idea that had great merit.

The Nth Bullants were a stand-alone side and having a junior club playing out of Cramer Street provided a link to the senior club and the VFL. The juniors were and still are playing in the Yarra Junior Football League.

Around 2008-09 an Under 18 side was formed which was to play in the VAFA. By this stage some of the people involved in the junior club, were starting to entrench themseleves in the senior club. Common theme being that they were Carlton supporters seduced by illusions of granduer.

In 2012 the VAFA under 18 side also changed its name to the Nth Blues. Effectively the Nth Blues is the Carlton reserves and evertime the Nth Blues jumper or logo is published its advertising the Carlton FC.

The VAFA side is effectively promoting the Carlton FC and sets a very dangerous precedent.

I asked them ages ago while looking for a new club and they said they were not the same entity but affilliated with the Northern Blues..... and the Northern Blues would help with resources. There is apparently the possiblity of player progression but the gap would be far too great IMO.

It could be either the start of a 'monster' in amateurs or a complete flop and fade within a couple of years when the VFL club wont let them use the name anymore.

West Torrens formed 1895 (merged woodville 1991)
Port Melbourne formed 1874

All Separate Clubs, they do operate under the same banner. Northern Blues Amateurs (nee Northern Bullants started in 2009 as an Under 18 sides.

Totally false that the Preston Bullants JFC formed after Preston RSL folded. Preston Bullants were formed in 2001, Preston RSL were still operating for a few years after that. The Amateurs and Preston Bullants JFC are separate entities. "Ilusions of Granduer?" ridiculous comment.
The NB Amateurs now do not even acknowledge how their concept started, according to them has them starting in 2011, which is FALSE. Formed in 2009 as an Under 18 side as a transition year before the players could then go on and play local footy or in the VFL as under 19 players. At end of 2011 & 2012, current regime on the back of hard word done by their Predecessors decided to progress a fully fledged club (Seniors, Reserves, U19s), BUT IT MUST REMEMBERED THAT THE GROUND WORK WAS LAID OUT/ESTABLISHED IN LATE 2008 AND IN 2009.

As if Carlton hasn't got anything to do with this ?
Otherwise it makes no sense whatsoever to call a side the Northern Blues. Might as well call it Carlton.
If it was called the Northern Bullants why change it Northern Blues ??? Something to do with Carlton I would suggest.

Why not call it Preston Bullants.
At least that would be the only real senior club that represents Preston even though it is in Amateur ranks.

Garry O'Sullivan is on the executive of the Blues amateurs! Not sure how a VFL 'Club' has been allowed to start a side using same name and jumper in a lower league.
