They should get back into the professional running for the televised games. They would obviously need a decent sponsor and if that could happen they should be all over it.
He had a cult following. The crowd roared Normie, Normie, Normie !!
Interestingly the voice over man with the words the Dandy Dollar Dash does a bit of voice over stuff on the Local Footy Show on C31.
Mark Hipworth ex Camberwell was a good runner. Gary Parkes ex Essendon and Werribee appear in a few of the Dandy Dollar races as well.
Alan Dizzy Lynch might have appeared in a couple of these races in later years over the long distance.
Alan "Get busy Dizzy" Lynch was more a distance runner winning big races at Stawell on gift day.
He also coached North Ballarat to 2 consecutive premierships in the Ballarat Football League in 1982 & 1983.
Still involved at junior level & has twin sons playing for North Ballarat City in the BFL with another one to come.
We might be from the bush. but we ain't green
He used to love the red box - good to see you havent changed much. When I was forward scout for Williamstown many years ago you always gave me a warm welcome.
Thanks Ceeesco, I need all the support I can get on this site.
It's very heavily weighted as you would have seen.
i can remember ex port melbourne pres peter saultry running in the dash, was that a 440,if so Peter won on this day in atrocious conditions,i am pretty sure it was at half time at north port oval,Peter was also afl boundary umpire of note.
First Dash - The Age Apr 20, 1978 p18
Dash as 'Worlds Richest Professional Footrace' - The Age 28 Aug 1980 p26
Name Change to the 'State Wide Sprint' - The Age Aug 26 1982 p30
Interesting that the Port v Sandy channel 0 game from 1978 was the first time the Dandy Dollar dash was televised.
Has the Victorian Athletics League have any vision of this ? Maybe worth checking. Big dollars for first prize in $7000 which was big for 1978.
