The crowd & those cheerleaders
Thoughts? Firstly the cheerleaders... Definately poor that they danced in the middle of the ground at half time. At least should have given a few hundred fans a closer look by dancing closer to the fence. :D In all seriousness, if that's what the VFL label as 'entertainment' having five or six cheerleaders on Grand Final day doing some lame routine in the middle of the ground with blaring music echoing through the PA then they might want to go back to the drawing board. Yet another marketing disaster by the VFL I would have thought. Didn't see the superboot competition this year either, scrubbed was it? We're seeing crowds of no more than 9000 turn up to the Grand Final, can anything be done to draw a bigger crowd or is it a lost cause? It was great footy, hard and tough at the end. The ABC coverage is great for the VFL all season, don't get me wrong, but it does hold the crowd back on Grand Final day. Why are families going to come to the VFL and spend $50+ at the start of the school holidays with the Show and so many other events on, when they can see such a good telecast on TV for nothing? But no TV means no exposure for advertisers etc so it is pretty much a revolving circle.

The only way to get adecent crowd back to the VFL GF is to do what the VFA did for decades and that is play it a week AFTER the AFL GF. Should at least get 20,000 with all the extra pubilcity and being the last footy game of the season.

It gets lost in among the many metro, amateur and league Grand Finals on this weekend.

Having those tarts represent the league was embarassing. Alright to look at, no doubt but jeez... bring back the big blue TXU mascot! :P Pretty sure the WAFL got something like 22 thou!

At least the TXU mascot gives out lollies. WAFL did get 22,000 today, pretty decent crowd I reckon given the Eagles factor in the AFL.

[/quote] To be honest, an old(ish) bloke like me couldn't care less about the cheerleaders because my son and me were not inside the gound at the time - we were outside kicking the footy. Just like you are supposed to at the VFL! The cheerleaders were lame, would have been better to let us have a kick of the footy on the ground - hone those goal kicking techniques for one last time for the season... I wish they'd let people onto the ground even though it was the grand final, it adds considerably to the atmosphere - I know they say 'safety' reasons for the players/officals/entertainment people, but I can't see why we couldn't have a kick at half time during the reserves game at least.

Definately the week after the AFL grand final when the withdrawal symptoms start kicking in. I reckon the 12-10 rule is wrong as well. It should be 10-12 as least. It should be the VFL side with a few top-ups rather than the AFL reserves with a few extras. It should be in place all year as well, rather than just the finals.

I guss there would be a slight problem with the prelim finals weekend if that happened. They would need a double header on the Sunday cos they can't clash with the AFL GF or a restructure of the finals series (possibly a final 6) so that the winner of a semi goes through to the big one and only one Prelim Final is played.

The 2nd semi winner is already in thee grand final waiting for the prelim winner. This year Werribee and sandy would probably have played twice.

I agree it does get lost in all the other Grand Finals being played on the same weekend.
