CARLTON has been forced to end its alignment with its VFL affiliate the Northern Blues as the ongoing financial implications of the League's COVID-19 shutdown continues to wreak havoc.
CONTRACT TALKS STOP Big names in limbo as COVID causes cash crisis
The club has also parted ways with VFL coach Josh Fraser as a result of the situation, with the former Collingwood and Gold Coast ruckman holding a dual role with the club for the last five years.

Preston were such a power from the late 70s to the mid 80s. Many great players wore the red and white. Yes very sad indeed.

Preston FC died the day the changed their name.Sad but envitable.Lets hope Sandringham are made of stronger stuff and play in some form in another comp under their own mangement!
Preston were a powerhouse during the 1970s and early 1980s on the back of very good Sunday crowds but for most of their time in the VFA were also rans and spent a fair bit of time in Second Div or near the bottom half of the ladder. In fact all the other northern clubs Coburg,Northcote and Brunswick were not that strong for long periods in the VFA
.I always amazed me growing up in the 1950s and following Sandringham who no matter what position they were on the ladder got reasonable crowds compared to the very poor crowds all of those clubs got to their home matches Port and Williamstown were similar to Sandy during that period..
Of course poor crowds = no money no money = not many good players and that rule is just as valid today.!
For those that didn't hear it, the Coodabeen Champions devoted a large part of yesterday's programme to the VFA and, in particular, to Preston and Geelong West, including an interview with Harold Martin. Really good listening if you have the time.

Sad that Preston is finally gone but not unexpected by anyone here. In reality, Preston FC died in 2012 when they rolled over and let Carlton completely take them over. They lost their name, colours, monogram, theme song, their jumper and lost more than half of their games at the City Oval. All that was left was a tiny PFC logo on their jumpers. Not sure if Preston had any representation except their weak president at the end. Probably not. Saddest part of this was how they went out without a wimper..they just gave up when Carlton cut the lifeline.
Probably my most favourite and hated VFA players played for Preston. Spider Shaw was one of the best VFA full forwards ever, and was unbelievable to watch, and I hated the sniper Ray Shaw.
I keep reading that the other affiliates are safe but does anyone belive that? Not me, not for a minute....
Jamie Shaw was a great player who kicked many goals. He had a vice like grip. He was also a pretty deadly kick at goal. He played 2 games for the roys. Booted 5 goals in his first game and got injured in his second. Wanted to play with his mates so ended back at the bullants.
