Top Ten Tough Men/Psychos/Brawlers in the VFA

TOP TEN VFA TOUGH MEN/PSYCHOS/BRAWLERS There has been so many tough players, especially from the 1960s/70s. Here is some of the toughest/psychos/brawlers of yesteryear. JOHN SHARP Played and also coached Yarraville. Absolute white line fever at its best. Was banned by the VFA indefinately in 1983. Was reported several times and Yarraville was a feared team in 1977 especially with Sharp at his agro best. Was also more than a handy cricketer who should have played state and even at test level. DAVID THORPE Worked well in tandem with John Sharp. Was captain coach of the Grand Final team beaten by Mordialloc in 1977. In a game at Westgarth Street he psyched up his players to start a brawl as they ran onto the ground against Northcote. CHARLIE DANIELS Tall skinhead who was a psycho. It was not a case of how many kicks but who many punches were thrown. Won the best and fairest in the 1st Divsion Reserves in 1980 for Port Melbourne. Later transferred to Mordialloc. RYAN GILPIN Fixed up Nick Sautner on a couple of occasions. Sautner turned yellow at the sight of Gilpin. TREVOR PRICE Tough player from Coburg who fas a feared player in the 1970s. HAROLD MARTIN Played and coached with Preston, Sunshine, Box Hill and Coburg. Went toe to toe with Sam Kekovich in the 1978 VFA Grand Final LOU PEPE Was a cop and a hard man. Played with Prahran and when there was a fight he loved it. GRAHAM BUSTER HARLAND Tough as nails with no fear. Cleaned up Alan Harper in the 1976 GRAND FINAL. Finished his VFA career at Nothcote. ALAN HARPER Fixed up Fred Cook in the 1976 VFA Grand Final. Psycho who would go off at a flick of a switch. Transfered to play with Frankston's 1978 2nd Division flag. ALF BEUS Legendary tough character who had a stand name after him. Loved a fight.
