Good standard where Geelong was simply a bit too quick and a one or two many talls. Crowd reasonable of 14,000 + the noise level not too bad. Boroughs had a red hot go but quite not good enough on the day. Footy can be a momentum game as Geelong could have lost to Box Hill or Werribee but did enough to just win and make it through to the GF. They took their opportunties to win. Was very impressed with George Burbury of Geelong. Bathie is a good backman and can make AFL level. They proboably have a few more that will be future afl players that will dowell. As for Port Billy Burstin keeps getting better and afl clubs could do a lot worse than take a punt on Billy Burstin. I would have him at Richmond no worries. Of course the big O should be getting more senior games at Geelong. My afl team Richmond has a spud in Angus Graham on their list when you see a player as good as the Big O running around in vfl level. What a shame. The Big O should be hetting a lot more than 7 afl games next year with the cats. Matthew Knights gets the best out of the kids and gets them ready for afl ranks. Full pointys to Knights. Ayres has also dome well with many changes at the borough. More challenges again in 2013 but Ayresy and Port will come through no doubt. Finally home after a few ales after the game at the locker Room Bar then Nixons followed by Station 28.

Hey vfa do you go to the footy to watch the game or just get pissed LOL

The trouble with 14,000 at Docklands is that the ground fees would chew up most of the gate unless the VFL/AFL have a special deal.

I still think the GF should be at Princes Park.

Good grief Matthew Knights a premiership coach.... I remember when he was chased out of port adelaide magpies after saying he wanted to make them like richmond - which he did as he stuffed them right up.

Ive seen two games of vic footy on my trip.... Im quite shocked that its much more skillful and quicker than than SA footy but nowhere near as nasty. Based on the VFL GF it looks to be a better player pathway to the AFL than the SANFL.

Port must be congratulated as a stand alone their entire wage bill wouldnt cover some of the cats players wages - it was part timers versus the pros

West Torrens formed 1895 (merged woodville 1991)
Port Melbourne formed 1874

Rooster won't let up on poor old Bonners.
Must admit I have had similar opinions & maybe time for him to be put out to pasture.
I know for a fact that Rooster cleaned up big time on the Cats, if they had kicked another goal he wouldn't have needed to go back to work.

Port Melbourne 4.2 7.6 10.9 11.9 (75)
Geelong Cats 3.4 6.10 10.15 14.24 (108)

GOALS:
Port Melbourne: Galea 4 O'Farrell 2 Burstin 2 Dwyer Cain Bentick
Geelong Cats: Kersten 3 Brown 2 Burbury 2 Stephenson Gleeson Byrnes Simpkin Corrigan Stringer Hogan

BEST:
Port Melbourne: Bentick Valenti O'Farrell Pleming Baird Burstin
Geelong Cats: Horlin-Smith Burbury Stephenson Simpson Byrnes Bathie

Geelong too good on the day. Congratulations to the them, thoroughly deserved, I thought they were terrific and if they had kicked straight could have won by about 10 goals.

Full credit to Port for battling it out. It wasn't to be, but the players stuck at it and can take plenty out of it for experience in years to come. We struggled against the talls of Geelong, who got first use of the ball. Our backline did a remarkable job considering the pressure they were under.

Bentick who missed out last year was prolific early and was Port's dominant midfielder. Quite a few skill errors from the Borough but that is in part due to the pressure the Cats put on us.

So our rebuilding starts again at Port. We need a 200cm+ ruckman, as Skipper and Bonaddio were clearly outgunned, against a 206cm Dawson and 201cm Stephenson.

Great to see so many get back to the club after the game and all very upbeat about the result.

Lots of changes off-field at the Borough with the redevelopment starting in just 2 weeks. Hopefully we keep the core of the group together and just add to the deficiencies that will be identified in 2012.

Go Borough!

Honest summary NorthPort.
Thought the game was still in the balance half way through the last quarter with sevreal free kicks having a big influence on the Cats resurgence.
Bentick's first quqrter was sensational & I thought Port were a lot more cleaner with the ball than Geelong in the first half.
Thought also that Skipper outplayed both Stephenson & Simpson in the first half with the latter being of very little value. Skipper's field kicking was a delight to watch.
Stephenson's last quarter was outstanding having a big influence on the result. Also played with a broken hand.
If Burstin doesn't get picked up next year I'll walk down to the GF.
Commiserations to all the Port boys, certainly worthy grand finalists.
Just as well there is no premiership cup for putting pints down before the game. A real eyeopener for us bushies.

Billy, I did have a couple of pre game ales at the Great Western. Believe it or not I did not have an ale during the game and actaully watched the game in full. After the game is where I had a few more ales. The noise of the Geelong supporters made the crowd of 14,000 seem more. Besides Princes Park there is no other current venue where you can realistically have the GF. Reckon the GF will again be at Ethihad next season whether we like it or not. Summary from yesterday Billy Burstin should be drafted. At least 3 or 4 of the cats teams will be regulars at AFL level next year. Burbury was impressive yesterday and the defensive work of Bathie was quite good. The Big O will play a lot more than 7 AFL games next year.

Billy,
I think that the VFL comp was a big winner yesterday.
Whilst we all have different opinions on the future of the competition there is no doubt that if it is to progress as a viable respected comp with a future we need the AFL clubs to make it such. ( A U turn by me).
To see all the supporters on the ground after the game had to be good for the image & can only create an atmosphere & interest that has been lacking.
For the betterment of the comp the grand final must be played at the best venue & that is Ethiad stadium.
Maybe 20,000 next year for the Roosters vs Sandy.
