On Saturday Northern Blues wore Carlton jumpers, not the one they wore last year with the white band. The Blues website gives more background on the jumper change for this season, incuding doing away with the red alternate jumper. I fail to see how this decision has been made "...with respect to our history..". Even the umpires kept referring to them as Carlton.

Well said Brekky. By resting Rioli, Box Hill were effectively no longer trying to win the game.

If I had money on that game, I'd be pretty displeased.

After reading all this shite, i'm even more pleased that we beat the team formerly known as Preston by a point, what a charade the Northern Blues has become, sadly .....

(charade - noun - an absurd pretence intended to create a pleasant or respectable appearance).

Carlton got into trouble a few years back over salary cap issues, so maybe they now want "compensation" by sliding in former Preston at the cheaper rate. They need to come clean and put their VFL side as Carlton and pay the full AFL rates. Not doing so also penalises the other VFL clubs which pay their appropriate dues. Preston has well and truly been obliterated. It should go into history as a one-time VFA club. It has been strangled to death by Carlton.

North Ballarat has played Carlton four times, their only win being a final at Roosters' home ground. This year Roosters and Dolphins play 'Carlton', posing as Northern Blues, at Docklands, where AFL charges apply. That is not VFL being available to all VFL members. It is emphasising that Northern Blues are just part of Carlton, even if the VFL match has to finish an hour or so prior to Carlton's AFL match.

If it is good enough for Collingwood Footscray essendon geelong & Richmond to pay full license fee then carlton should do the same no if and buts !!!

Don't forget Hawthorn and the farce that is the Box Hill Hawks.

I find it interesting that in 2009 when we played them in the prelim Preston had a lot of supporters there - some with pfc gear on etc etc. On Saturday they hardly had a soul - well none in merchandise anyway. The support seems to of died very quickly.

That would be the same "farce" that has defeated Ayres' Mercenaries twice in the past four years in Finals games played at the Port Melbourne dunghill.

I don't know what that has got to do with the Box Hill Mustangs effectively becoming the Hawthorn reserves in all but name.

Here is a quick checklist:

- Changed mascot to the Hawthorn mascot? Yes
- Changed club song to the Hawthorn club song? Yes
- Changed jumper to the Hawthorn jumper? Yes (With the exception of a microscopic horse on the front)
- Benched a player in the grand final when the game was in the balance so he would be ready for Hawthorn in the AFL grand final? Yes

Just like the Northern Blues are the Carlton reserves in all but name so the Box Hill Hawks are the Hawthorn reserves in all but name.

Sorry Mustang, agree with the others here. Just as insulting as Carlton. Hawthorn too should be paying the full fee. Not like they don't have the $$$
And it's the complete bullshit reasoning you get from the clubs that makes me the angriest. What a mess
