Ikon (Princes Park), Casey Fields, Whitten Oval big winners in State Government funding.
Body:

It looks like my hopes of Fortburn / North Port Oval gettign a funding upgrade for womens footy is no chance, with the state government announcing that the ovals mentioned in the subject line are in line for a funding boost.  Particulary Princes Park.  Maybe it's time the VFL Grand Final returns the Oval and moves away from Etihad stadium.

"...The deal also guarantees the grand final will be played at the MCG until 2057 with McLachlan saying that agreement provides enough certainty for the MCC to borrow the funds required to upgrade the Great Southern Stand and the surrounding area.

McLachlan said the deal rules out the prospect of a third major stadium being needed for Melbourne with the investment in IKON Park, Whitten Oval and Casey Fields seen as a major boost for women's sport.

He said the AFL's position on what the premier venue would be for AFLW remained open, however the early indications were that IKON Park looked a suitable option at this stage. He ruled out AFL matches returning to suburban venues in the future.

"It's hard to see games being played in small-capacity venues when we have an average crowd of 45,000," McLachlan said.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said the deal was a "very very good outcome". "
