Last minute list additions

Thought I should start up a thread to cover last minute additions to the clubs lists.  The aligned clubs of Box Hill and Casey Scorpions will obviously have quite a few additions to bring their list up to size.

Port Melbourne have signed former premiership player Shannon Lange along with Chris Jones and Jackson Starcevich.

From local paper reports both Casey and Sandy have picked up some great recruits from the EFL in particular. Also reports of AFL clubs recommending their VFL listed players.....I was a bit concerned this might happen. We may find the three aligned clubs are gonna be much stronger than first anticipated.

Yes Billy.....

Casey......Tim Smith and Ryan Morrison return, from Melbourne Jake Spencer and Patrick McKenna......Casey has also secured 2018 Dandenong Stingrays premiership co-captain Campbell Hustwaite and ex-Queenslander Cody Stackelberg from Collingwood VFL; well-regarded former Gipplsand Power defender Kyle Reid from Geelong VFL; slippery forward Luke Nelson from Richmond VFL; ex-Dandenong Stingrays defender Daniel Capiron; former Gippsland Power utility Matt McGannon from the NEAFL; Billy Coates from Richmond VFL and St Kevin’s in the VAFA; and Brodie McLaughlin from North Melbourne VFL.

Sandy......

The reinforcements are arriving at Sandringham.

Given permission to bolster their list for the abbreviated VFL season, Sandy have secured a string of recruits and are close to locking in former Saint Brandon White.

The package includes players from other VFL clubs, two TAC Cup premiership players and a raw ruckman from the VAFA.

White is “99 per cent’’ sure he will be play, according to new Zebras coach Adrian Connolly.

If he does, he will be the most notable of the supplementary players.

White won Sandy’s best and fairest last year, but was delisted by St Kilda after 11 matches from 2016-2019. He had been drafted from the Dandenong Stingrays in 2015.

Brandon White.

Brandon White.

“Highly skilled, highly talented, love his high competitive levels,’’ Connolly said.

“Clearly he’s a very talented player at VFL level, and I still think he has a lot to offer at AFL level.’’

White returned to his junior club, Beaconsfield (which has withdrawn from competition this year), after being jettisoned by the Saints.

He has trained twice at Sandy, who have secured Footscray Bulldogs VFL pair Jesse Glass-McCasker and Jordan Boyd, and Collingwood VFL’s Cal Wellings.

Originally from WA, tall defender Glass-McCasker was on Carlton’s rookie list for three years.

Boyd is from Spotswood and had some exciting moments for the Doggies in his eight matches last year.

Wellings was a decorated Under 18 player with the Greater Western Victoria Rebels and in his two years with the Magpies has proved himself an accomplished VFL midfielder.

Wellings is calling Old Brighton his home club this year.

Fin Bayne and Lachie McDonnell, both 2018 premiership players with the Stingrays, are also on board, as is Sandringham Dragons graduate Nick Burke, who had signed to play with Geelong VFL this year.

Bayne was with Richmond VFL last year and McDonnell with Frankston.

The Zebras have also locked in 2019 Monash Blues best and fairest Macgregor Cameron, who will back up Chris Carey in the ruck.

“We call him ‘Big Mac’ … he’s 6’9,’’ Connolly said.

“He’s one we actually followed over 12 months. I saw him play two years ago in the VAFA. He’s got a little bit to offer as a really mobile ruckman.’’

Carey was one of Sandy’s best signings in the off-season, returning to the VFL after a dominant season for Eastern Malvern in the Southern league. He polled 39 votes to win the Division 1 medal.

Connolly said the AFL clubs had been tremendous in sending their VFL players to the aligned clubs.

“North Melbourne have been really good, Daniel Giansiracusa (Footscray coach) has been fantastic in promoting his kids … real credit to all those clubs,’’ he said

Sounds like a good bunch for the Zebras. Might not be the pushovers that many on here had predicted.
