Coburg desperately unlucky not to post their first win of the season!

In a frustrating game for both sides in front of a small but vocal crowd, Port ran out eventual winners.

Port Melbourne 11.14. 80

Coburg 10.10.70

The game saw some fairly ordinary umpiring, which I don't mind saying... Favoured Port.

After being within 4 points at half time, Coburg must have thought they rightly were a chance of an upset win and breaking the seasons drought.

Your right about a small crowd, barely 100 people in the picture. Don't know what they were thinking by playing the game at that timeslot, what made them think that was a good idea when other night matches in better conditions also produced poor crowds ?

Hopefully Sunday is a real winner and it restores some club pride which seems to be dormant at the moment.

It's an interesting contrast, Dolphin Attack mentioned the great atmosphere at nights games at Frankston. I'm not sure why we haven't captured that at Port.. I like the night games but feel like it's more of a warmer weather event.

Theres not much atmosphere at Kinetic Stadium night games unless you're standing on the hill, underneath the small scoreboard half full of drink. Anywhere else its cold, quiet and miserable. Personally, as a spectator I much prefer day games with the traditional 2pm start.

not going to lie, the nostalgia factor is a big part of it for me, reminds me of going to sandy v frankston games in the 90s with my grandad. the hill crowd is where its at. i dont drink but i love listening to the hype

I remember some of the abuse the old Borough ladies copped as they walked past the Hill in the late 90s. It would have had some of those supporters up on charges if it happened in this day and age.

We sit opposite the hill.....I'm not a big rap for them in truth. While they do support the team and give us a bit of an edge, I think their general intimidating and bullying of opposition players and supporters actually turns the umpires against us.....and no, I'm not kidding.

As for tonight's game with Southport.......the Sharks were ferocious tonight, had clearly done their homework and knew it was going to be decided by contested possession, and they blew us off the park with it, which is rarely done. Their ball use is incredibly slick, and their clearance work very sharp. Given all of that, we somehow led them for 2.5 quarters before a couple of undisciplined frees got them level at 3/4 time. Kicking to the Kars St end in the last was always gonna be an advantage for them and they quickly broke the game open to lead by 20 points halfway through. The Dolphs did keep fighting and the final margin might have been 14 points I think which was testament to Frankston's effort, which was never in question. I would love to know what the free kick stats were......pretty safe to assume we were on the wrong end of them. Credit where it's due though, Southport were very polished and would be a worthy finalist in my view.

Frankston were awful after quarter time. By 3QT despite scores being level game was over.

On that form Coburg will go in as favourites in 2 weeks time,

61 Free Kicks tonight (Southport 35-26)

What a game at Casey Fields and what a win by Williamstown. Great game to watch in tricky conditions

Liam Conway kicked winning goal for Seagulls against strong wind with 90 seconds left

Can't say I've seen it happen often but it does happen (intimidating and bullying opposition fans) which is going to happen when you havevthat many drunks ( however that's not justification for those actions). Last Port match a fan had his Port hat knocked off his head, childish stuff. Overall though I think the fans are awesome, great atmosphere, friendly - I've been thanked on several occasions for coming to your rooms, drinks bought for me and a mate, congratulated on winning etc etc Overall I'm a fan of the Frankston supporters.

I think the difference between Frankston and Port in gaining a good crowd at night matches is that Frankston may be getting better crowds due to the location whereas Port has too many sporting and entertainment options in the local and surrounding areas. Team performance and weather also play a part obviously.

Back in the nineties when the gatherings on the hill first started there was a group of 20 or 30 guys who were very humourus and entertaining. There was a bit of stick given to opposition players and umpires but in general the comments were meant to be funny - not nasty and abusive. As time rolled on, most of those guys have moved on and we have been left with the current small group of alchohol fuelled cavemen who spend the day abusing whoever they feel like. I notice they now have security patroling the area in front of them.

Makes a good case for only selling light beer..

Definitely not something yould want to see (light beer sales only) it's one of the attractions of the vfl and one we have over the AFL. I'm always for deal with the perpetrators and not punishing the majority. It would only lead to fans getting fuelled up pre match instead.

Been a few cavemen behaviour reported over the years, I think Digs mentioned that North Ballarat had a attractive trainer that got some uninvited attention from the hill.

If I had a daughter I wouldn't let her in the same postcode as them. Bearsman is spot on with his comments about the "evolution" of the hill. What's amusing is that you occasionally see these boofheads at away games on their own and they're like church mice.

The club will tolerate it because they keep the till ticking over with beer sales during and after the game and I assume they buy memberships. The players love the lift they give them and quite often come over and clap them after the game, so its not all bad, but it must have a detrimental effect on getting families to the Frankston games with all the language.

Probably the worst attack on anyone was Robbie Nahas - no idea what he did but they gave it to him at Richmond and then again when he played for Port. Some of what was said to him was really off but to his credit he just laughed it off.

I've never had any issues with the guys on the Hill when I've been there as a spectator, and that includes when I had my daughter there playing the tambourine!

Might want to rethink that after what happened during the Collingwood game..
