Ex Dolphins captain Josh Newman had a fair year at Mornington, Coached them to a flag, won the medal for best a field in the GF, and won the George Osborne Medal for the MPNFL Div 2 Best and Fairest.
Started as a defender at Frankston and Willi (won a club B&F beating Ben Cavarra) but really blossomed when Danny Ryan moved him to the midfield. Absolute crying shame he wasn't given a try at AFL level. Probably ranks with Chris Cain as the most unlucky not to be drafted from the VFL.
I remember when Nic was drafted thinking Josh was pretty unlucky not to be with him. Has become a much better player since then and was a great captain for us.....I hear that the club treated him poorly at the end of last season when he got injured which was why he left. I really hope there isn't a heap of truth in that. He was incredible in the second half for Mornington last week and I doubt they'd have won the flag without him.
great player for a long time now
