And further to that news, the West Coast Eagles have re-committed to the WAFL in a multi-year deal.

No surprises there. Generally the AFL gets what the AFL wants:

"Port Adelaide and Adelaide will remain in the SANFL next season after the league agreed to address the clubs’ long-held concerns about list concessions and fixture equality.

"The clubs’ attempts to join a new national state league or the VFL will be shelved for 2025 after talks on Wednesday involving the AFL reached a resolution on key fronts."

Maybe they never really wanted to leave the SANFL/WAFL and were only threatening in order to get a better deal - does this put the concept of an AFL Seconds comp to bed? or is it just a temporary lull? And what about Tasmania's VFL and VFLW teams? will that happen in 2025?

I don't think the Devils have any interest in bringing in a VFL team before they need to. It could be 2026, but I suspect 2027 to have one season leading into their AFL debut, assuming that all goes ahead.

Temporary lull I reckon Wally.....I see no version of a future where the SA and WA clubs are prepared to settle for what they see as an inferior seconds competition. They will want their up and comers on a level playing field with the rest of the league. That's the nature of the beast as the AFL becomes a more and more professional competition. A return to an AFL reserves competition is inevitable, it's just a matter of when.
