The two best teams are in the grand final. Fantastic that it is between two stand alone teams . You I'll will get a tough, hard fought game. Ironic that both were runners up in the previous two years. Werribee losing to gold coast last year and Southport to Casey in 2022. You never know a team like Frankston could push for a grand final in next few year if they can maintain majority of their players and strengthen in certain areas with some recruiting. Promising times for the dolphins. Williamstown were also brave this year and not that far off.

Haven’t watched a game there since the grand final of 93 (which we should have won damnit). For those in the know, what’s parking like ? I’m guessing crowd will only be around 5k but am I best leaving the car at home ?

I'll message you mega. We catch tram from Elizabeth street and get off two stops past where the old Sarah sands hotel is. Meet at Cornish arms around midday.  Grab a counter meal there and a few ales.

Should be a good one. The two best teams - Werirbee the top team all year and Southport the best late in the year and through the finals. And both being stand alones makes it that bit better. Dont think there will be much between them. If  Werribee can stop Crossley dominating they should win  but no surprise if Southport get up.  Werribee by 2 goals for me.

Spot on bearsman. Werribee have been the standout team all year but Southport have been great in the finals. Going to be a close one and fantastic to see two standalone teams. Crossley is a massive unit. Southport have a good running team as do werribee. Will be a tough hard old fashion game. Werribee to sneak home but no certainty as Southport will be up for a challenge. Could we see extra time in a grand final??

Good start early with both sides struggling to score in the first 5 minutes.

It's a small crowd. Which I guess is to be expected.

Ideal conditions for footy at Carlton.

FWIW, I'm tipping the Sharks by 2 goals, but would love to see the Tigers get a flag as a Victorian VFA/VFL standalone club.

Not looking good at quarter time. Aside from a few moment's Werribee's skills have been pretty poor. If it wasn't for Southport's bad kicking then the game would be all but over.

Quarter time :

Werribee 2.2.14

Werribee are keeping themselves in it but they need to seriously turn their form around. That patient chip the ball around game is not going to work against a team as relentless as Southport.

What a game.! And second half from Werribee...they have been superb.

About 10 mins left in the game and the sharks have kicked two in a row to give themselves a sneaky chance.

The stink of 2023 is washed away.

Congratulations Werribee, I gave them no chance for most of that game but they stood up when the time came. Let it be a sign to anyone who says the VFL means nothing anymore.

Awesome game. Southport were very good in first half especially in the packs. If southport kicked straighter the margin could have blown right out. Fantastic third quarter by werribee. They continued into the last quarter where they extended there lead to 26 points. Southport all of a sudden with a late rush were 6 points behind. They were attacking when siren went. Great game. Fantastic to see another vfa club win a flag. Been 31 years since werribee won a flag. Southport will no doubt get their turn, I have no doubt.

Brilliant third quarter by Werribee set up a great win. Agree with VFA, had Southport kicked straight early the game is probably out of Werribee's reach. Best team all year so a fitting result.

Some of the worst umpiring decisions you will ever see in this game. VFL umpiring standard  still has a long way to go.

Spot on Bearsman. !

Can"t recall Southport getting a free in the 3rd Quarter,

Unsure when they changed the rules.

Ikon park is the ideal venue for the VFL Grand final

I see AFL have not published a crowd figure rumoured to be around 4000. Which would be the lowest since 1934.

Crowd was listed as 4500 Robbo.

The VFL need to find a better venue to accommodate small VFA crowds.  The last couple years the after-match presentation was held on the opposite side of the ground to where most of the crowd were. Those watching from home had a better view of the presentation the mugs who paid to go Princes Park,

It was an entertaining last quarter, particularly the final minutes with the 'Bees 6pts in front and the play in Southport forward zone. For a moment I was hoping for scores level at final siren and then into extended game.

With 4,500 it would have been better if played at Northport oval however it’s understandable that if two afl reserves sides play then it’s not practical for the game to be played in Port.

Great atmosphere around the ground with it building all day until the final climax.

As I left the game yesterday I thought Christ the vfl grand finals produce some classic games and yesterday was no exception. Well done to both sides once again proving that it’s not too hard to compete v the full time afl sides.

Two standalone teams produced a ripping grand final. Fantastic finish. Henderson likely to end up at Geelong like last years Norm Goss medallist Shaun Mannagh. Werribee has a young side and will no doubt feature again as will Southport who will be coached by Matthew Primus next year. Look out for Frankston next year especially if they can maintain majority of players and recruit a few for the positions that can assist the dolphins on gradually reaching greater heights next year and beyond.
