The Great Debate - Silenced!
Body:
TAKEN FROM ANOTHER THREAD
It was very annoying on Sat 12 & 19 July to hear frequent mentions of "seniors" meaning AFL sides. VFL teams ARE seniors. Players do not go to the "seniors" if going from a VFL team to an AFL team. They are going to an AFL team - the AFL clubs have only one team. They are not the "seniors". This sort of demeaning attitude is expected from AFL ignoramuses, but surely we can expect VFL commentators to get it right.
If AFL listed players are playing at VFL level, that is one below the highest level they could be playing, hence being below the seniors. If a VFL player is running around in the reserves, he is therefore playing at one-level below the highest level he could be playing. AFL Players mindset - Seniors (AFL Club) - Reserves (VFL club) - Thirds (VFL reserves) VFL Players mindset - Seniors (VFL Club) - Reserves (VFL reserves) - Thirds (Local Club) It's simple, that's exactly what the current landscape dictates to footy followers, the VFL commentators are correct, if you want to spread lies and not face up to the truth run for president in Zimbabwe or join ASIO. If you get dropped from an AFL side you don't go from the seniors to the seniors, that's just ridiculous. Denying this obvious feature of the modern-day footballing structure and pathway is preposterous and utter non-sense. It’s fantastic that people want to the keep historical legacy of the VFA alive, it’s also great to see the competition thriving on the field. The talent and class on display every weekend from most clubs rates in the top echelon of footy played around the nation, and is something to behold. Supporters from the past VFA need to move forward and form a unified front for the VFL to survive and prosper – negativity and spite will do none of this. Get with the times, have a crack, make a difference – in a huge manner.
