I've decided to make a thread for compiling all of Frankston's list changes going into 2024. The club's already been busy with re-signings as well as couple of new recruits already. Here are the changes thus far:
OUT:
- Will Fordham (Williamstown)
- Bailey Lambert (Noble Park)
- Ryley Stoddart (Williamstown)
- Kai Owens (Retired from state football)
IN:
- Tyson Milne (Sandringham)
- Tomoya Owens (Sandringham)
- Tom Murphy (Somerville)
- George Grey (Casey)
- Noah Gown (Sandringham)
RE-SIGNED:
- Jackson Voss - Seb Quirk - Ryan Jacobs
- Colby Nayna - Taine Barlow - Trent Mynott
- Jack Newnes - Joe Lloyd - Josh Smith
- Matt Johnson - Josh Butland - Lachlan Reidy
- Trent Marotta - Justin Davies - Darcy Gilbert
- Jesse McManus - Ben Hempel
I'll update as more list changes or re-signings are announced.
Which key players from last season are yet to re-sign?
Paul,
Fordham and Lambert are big losses, both massively important to us last season. Kai Owens, Max Williams and James Rendell would be my targets to get stitched up quickly.
Yep, getting those three back is important, for sure.
Another huge loss. Ryley Stoddart to Williamstown.
Saw a comment on BigFooty saying that Stoddard and Kai Owens were probably leaving Frankston. Stings to see Stoddard go, hopefully the part about Owens isn't true.
Yep, losing Stoddart is a debacle. If Owens is added to that, then this is yet another year of changing coaches and having to rebuild. A couple of years back we were every chance of playing finals before covid bit us.....and with a young team that was seriously going places. Now, as we continue to show a lack of stability off the ground, we lose the guts of our team and are in danger of slipping to rock bottom without some good replacements.
It's time this club got serious about its' direction. With what is ahead in terms of changes to the VFL, we won't have a club in ten years time, maybe even five.
Tom Murphy has returned to Frankston after a season spent with Sommerville in the MPFNL.
Frankston have recruited 2022 premiership player George Grey from Casey
Another former Dragon, Kornberg is doing a good job getting his former players who want opportunities to come down the highway.
Didn't know he was originally from the Dragons. It's a good sign in my opinion, doubt he would be drawing his former players over if they didn't think well of him.
"Another former Dragon, Kornberg is doing a good job getting his former players who want opportunities to come down the highway."
Wonder if he can bring Brodie McLaughlin back home with him from the Gold Coast Suns? If not drafted again, I guess he will end up at Port or Willi...
Pre season training begins this week at Frankston
I knew the pre-season training was starting for the women's team this week, figures the men's would be around the same time.
Email went out to Frankston members yesterday as pre-season 2024 starts this week. Outright states that this is our best year for player retention in a fair while. The loss of Fordham, Lambert, and Stoddard are blows but hopefully we've retained enough of our list to avoid losing momentum next year.
Photos from Kinetic Stadium this evening
This is happening on Friday evening. Everybody welcome
Keen for it. I've just read the CODE Sports article on Kornberg and liked it. Looking forward to hearing him speak on Friday.
Frankston have recruited Noah Gown as a key forward from Sandringham.
Don't know much about his personal story, but a talented key forward is a definite need!
It's a position we've needed filled for a while. Forward line has shown promise this year so hopefully Gown is the missing piece. Will have to pop down to training one night and see how things are shaping.
Will be his fourth VFL club after stints at Essendon, Willi and Sandringham - quite a handy player
Frankston have announced that Kai Owens will be stepping away from state-level footy to pursue opportunities outside football.
Sort of knew this was on the cards in last 2-3 weeks about Kai, confirmed tonight. He was great for our club wish hi: well in future.
For our Frankston posters, we encourage for people to come down to Frankston training at Kinetic Stadium, to see how our squad is preparing for season 2024.
Training times: Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:30pm to 7:30pm, Saturdays 7:30am to 10am
It's unfortunate to see him go, but this is a semi-professional comp after all. Sometimes things will come up in a player's life that have to take priority over footy. It's a shame we couldn't hold on to him for next year but wish him all the best.
Definitely planning on getting down to training this week. Will most likely be there Saturday morning and hopefully can make it down on the Thursday night.
Shame Kai is moving on. Would have loved to see him stay. Didn't think he was much chop when he arrived but he worked hard and the improvement came. Unlucky not to be drafted this year. Hopefully we will see some more decent recruiting to replace the talent that has departed.
Saw on the club's Facebook story that Max Williams is at training tonight, which is encouraging to see. Never saw any club posts saying he's re-signed but if he's still at training then you'd think it's at least a possibility. Really hope he stays for next year.
Kai Owens has signed with Mornington in MPFNL for 2 years
Could be worse. At least we're not losing yet another player to Williamstown.
Annnnd I've jinxed us haven't I?
Is Brodie McLaughlin a former Frankston player?
He played for us in 2022 then got drafted by Gold Coast at the end of the year. Thought it was worth bringing up since he joins Fordham and Stoddart as an ex-Frankston player.
well, you were concerned that you had jinxed the Dollies
Not as if much changes from this year. McLaughlin kicked a bag against us when we got demolished by the Suns. Hopefully when we play Williamstown we actually show up.
Another ex-Frankston player lands at Williamstown......surprise surprise. He joins a long list that goes back quite a few years. We have a half eaten pizza in the kitchen if you want that too gulls? Sickening.
most of those players (Cavarra, Pongracic, Newman, Gray, etc) came to Willi when Frankston surrended their licence - there has only been a few come this way since such as Mitch Cox and the guys this year but there is usually a reason such as travel
Its very frustrating losing quality players as often as we do, and it really bites when they go to other standalones. One day I hope, one or two of the dozens of these guys who when delisted, will return to the club that gave them the chance to play AFL.
The only one I can remember who returned to Frankston was back in 1992 when the great John Parker was delisted by Brisbane...
