Box Hill/Werribee Practice match time change
Saturday 19th Feb at 10.00 am. Just a note guys , the game between Box Hill/Werribee (basically leftovers from the Hawthorn and Footscray Wizard Cup teams plus VFL listed guys) has been changed from Friday afternoon to Saturday morning at 10.00am. Venue remains unchanged - Whitten Oval. One game only.

Box Hill 5.7.37 defeated Werribee 3.9 27 in very scrappy game marred by both the early drizzle and two sides made up mainly from guys who played VFL ressies last year , a smattering of new kids and just a handful of AFL listed blokes. Both Footscray and Hawthorn are obviously being super conservative with their injury management at this early stage and the resulting mixed bags representing both VFL sides weren't too big on cohesive teamwork. Likewise both coaches were light on for stategies in what was basically a man on man scratch match with guys having their first opportunities to get their hands on a footy under match conditions. I'm afraid I couldn't give you too much info on Werribee's better players ( maybe ons can add something here ?) but for Box Hill Brad Sewell was probably the stand out off half back with fellow Hawthorn teamates Luke Brennan , Doug Scott , Matty Ball , Kris Height , Lance Franklin and Tom Murphy chipping in with creditable efforts. Brendan Weinert , Cam Howat , Nick Kane , Dan Seehusen , Paul Jolley and Benny McGlynn also showed out , mainly in the dryer second half. Beanpole reserves ruckman Owen Millwood put in a terrific effort against the much stronger and more experienced opponent in Peter Street....great effort Big O , could be the start of something ! Of the new guys , Jason Cook showed great strength and top pair of hands in contested marking duels up forward ; Andy Buckenara's run and team ethic came under notice ; Jimmy Ivory worked hard in defence and Jason Eagle did enough to suggest that senior footy will not be out of reach for him this season. Like I said , scrappy concern but a good jit out for both sides and a good one to have out of the way. The Box Hill boys will be off on their pre season training camp in Phillip Island this coming weekend.
