What is it we need ? What positions need filling ? I guess until we find out who’s going it may be a premature question however regardless of departures I would like to see some more pace added to the side, last year we looked too slow at times and I’m not convinced that our fasted player in Anastasio will be back. 
 

Perhaps another key forward to assist Gowers (who from listening to his comments about the club on vfl radio I’m convinced will re sign). 

Fastest to fasted player (could possibly be fasting as well) - too lazy to edit, lazy Sunday!

Big player movement to start off the off season, Robbie Mcombe gone as just reported on a fan page. Served the club well in his season with us.

He did, he will dominate the league - great pick up for them.

Make sure you get to know Brendan well who has got time for everybody.

Good man who will do well.

He & his wife are currently moving home from Geelong to Melbourne. 

He did say on the radio that he looks forward to mixing with the fans, I’m sure in time we will cross paths. Sounds similar to Gary in the way that he makes himself approachable. I like what I hear so far, next step is seeing who we can hold onto and who we can recruit which may be a challenge considering the results of the past few seasons but somewhat offset by the coaching appointments.

Two big resigning in Highmore who finished best and fairest runner up and the captain is back. 
 

Some other big signings that I think is crucial we re sign are Flockart, Gowers and Rankin, hopefully we hear of them resigning soon.

Paul Amy is saying Port are going hard for Dyson Heppel. 

I’ll believe it after the deal is signed sealed and delivered. Didn’t Paul Amy also say that Hird was set to be head coach ? Happy to be corrected if I’m mistaken,

Not 100% sure but I think he only ever said Port were going to make Hird an offer ...

Cant imagine he'd want to play VFL. I reckon they will find some sort of assistant position for him.

Borough fan favourite and the man who finished third in last season’s best and fairest has just been announced as a re sign. A nice signature and along with Highmire confirms two of the top 3 placed best and fairest players, fans will be eagerly awaiting to see if Port can make the trifecta by signing Gowers.

Rumours are getting louder and louder that Heppell has been signed by Port, if the rumours are true then a announcement is imminent - the only delay in making it official i am guessing would be the club waiting to see who else puts pen to paper in order to release the player movement information in one batch. Is it a mere rumour or is it genuine ? The next few days should tell.

Owen Mulady has re signed with the Borough as well as Gaghan. Positives so far is that key players appear to be getting resigned with not many big name departures thus far other than Robbie Mccomb.

Sam Phillip who I feel we didn’t see the best of has resigned. Again player retention seems to be positive and it seems the big departures that we and other vfl clubs have experienced in years gone by is not happening this season or at least thus far. We have the basis of a strong side with being in many winning positions this seasons but can’t help to think we are probably a small handful of strong players away from making a big impact - being October it’s still early and hopefully we can grab the needed 5 or so players that can take us to another level and make PORT MELBOURNE GREAT AGAIN (and hear the words that are music to my ears from Digs that we will win it) !!

BOROUGH SIGN AFL LEGEND DYSON HEPPELL ON TWO-YEAR DEAL

The Port Melbourne Football Club (PMFC) has today announced that recently retired AFL legend Dyson Heppell will once again don the boots after he committed to a two-year contract with the Borough for 2025 & 2026.

Heppell, who played 253 games for Essendon over his 13-year AFL career will join the club in a dual role as a Playing-Assistant and Community Ambassador.

“When Brendan reached out and told me of his plans for next season and beyond I was genuinely excited and wanted to be a part of it” commented Heppell.

Heppell brings a wealth of experience which is a major coup for the club and is sure to make an impact both for his skills and for his leadership.

Off the field Dyson will be the leader for the Borough’s Football Programs and Clinics.  These programs are to be delivered through schools and junior clubs and will allow junior players to have the opportunity to learn from some of the best in the game.

“Football has given me so much so to be able to be part of the program that the Port Melbourne Footy Club has put together is fantastic.  It is a small way to give back and hopefully inspire the next generation”.

This key signing is a huge scalp for new VFL Head Coach Brendan McCartney who has hit the ground running and is putting together a strong squad for next season.

“Having a bloke like Dyson in your group can only strengthen the team.  His skill is evident and his leadership abilities is a bonus especially with a lot of young guys in our team.  They can learn a lot from Dyson and Dyson is excited to share his knowledge and experience with them” commented McCartney.

That's a pretty huge get for Port Melbourne. Probably the most high-profile signing any standalone club has had in years.

Maybe in 2025 the pieces will finally fit together and we'll the finals side people have been predicting.

Fantastic get no doubt but club  cant rest if they want to make a impact, still need a few top class players - have the basis of a good side and stil need to know what some of the quality 2024 players are doing next season - Anastasio, Gowers, Flockhart, Rankin etc need to hold onto them. So far so good.

Your right - several people who have never been members are enquiring about how to join. Memberships should be available before end of month.

Digs how do you rate ex North Ballarat midfielder Malachi White ? He is the latest signing at Port. 

He is a new one on me Mega !.

He also signed Riley  Pokinghorne from you guys. Having won 2 best and fairests at Notth Ballarat and averaging 29 processions per game he sounds promising. You’ve watched your fair share of vfl so you know the standard - how difficult a transition will it be for Riley to make the jump - would you say he is already up to vfl standard ?

It will be a piece of cake for Riley.

Has had experience at VFL level with North Melbourne & Geelong.

Son of the Roosters games record holder Travis who along with his brothers won the first three B & F's when the club joined the VFL.

You've got a good one there & more importantly .....A good person.

Can't speak highly enough about him.

Have seen Mal White play but he didn't jump out at me !

Further info from current players is that he goes alright.

Came to the Roosters in 2024 from the Geelong Falcons & is obviously a good friend of Maccas.

Club 2024 B&F Josh Sparkman is another going to try out at Port.

Get on early for Riley to win the B&F !

Big call considering the company he is in, Heppell, Highmore, Gowers (if he resigns) Hooper etc. 

Latest signing at Port is ex AFL Wanganeen.

Rankin has also re signed as well as ex Fremantle Tobe Watson. Building the foundations of a strong side by re signing key players and only one big name departure thus far I can think of.

Not just yet mate, we stil need a few top quality players to make a meaningful impact in the competition. As is st the moment we will be competitive in most games but a few top line vfl players will significantly improve our anaemic post covid win loss ratio.

Digs as one of the most passionate North Ballarat supporters we are yet to hear of your assessment of Josh - is one to assume that you feel he may have done with another year at North Ballarat before heading to your second favourite club?

Sparkman is good enough  Mega has played several games at Footscray in the VFL.

Current B & F at the Roosters although may have been a little lucky with an injury to Riley two thirds into the season.

Maccas philosophy at North was solely directed at development & it looks like that direction is starting to pay off.

Totally different approach at Port.

I think his approach at Port will be similar, he has signed several younger players and have yet to see a significant influx of older experienced players like we saw in recent seasons. Well known for player development - Hird believes Brendan is the best developer in the game which he said he will focus on. 
 

Red has resigned today which is pleasing as I feel we need that bit of pace he provides.

Punter in the states, big shoes to fill, need to find another key forward. Boys we have forward are all capable but now missing a key target man. 

Will Martin has signed again for Port, signed last year but then moved to Queensland. Good pick up. Wonder how many spots have been filled at Port, sure have been busy.
