VFLR: Do you believe stand-alone clubs need further assistance from the TRUenergy VFL?
PS: The VFL does help us out, but we have made application to increase our salary cap by $100,000 a year. We don’t believe it is unreasonable. Our record of being able to pay our players is second to none, and to recruit the type of players we have been talking about, we have to have that flexibility to get those players, otherwise they will get on a plane and go to South Australia. We need that scope.
VFLR: If the TRUenergy VFL said yes to that request, could Port Melbourne afford that added cost without derailing its finances?
PS: It would impact on our bottom line, but we believe we can afford it. Our club is profitable each year. As a football club, we are here to win games. If we don’t win games it is not worth being in the competition. We are in a position to do it.
I posted something like this earlier, and Dolphin told me I had no idea what I was talking about. But perhaps I was just ahead of my time, eh Dolff?
