Can anybody give me a good reason why the VFL wont increase the salary cap for this competition???? The VFL have said they want some stand alone teams but in all honesty what chance is there that a stand alone team will win the premiership?
How can teams like Port and Frankston recruit with so little money?? All that happens each season is clubs begin to build a squad that they think can make the finals. But after recruiting a handfull of quality players the money runs out because of the tiny salary cap.
Lets look at Williamstown as an example... most weeks they have between 12-16 AFL listed players that salaries do not come under the salary cap as they are on an AFL list.
So really all the Willy footy club need is 6-8 players that they can splurge money on to make up the rest of the team.
Now look at a team like Port or Frankston. Every player basically comes under the salary cap so the money is divided into a minimum of 22 players.
That is chicken feed and its no wonder the stand alone are up against it.
Id love to see the VFL make the salary cap open slather or at least dramatically increase it. Reward the clubs for having money in the bank and running a sucessful business.
What does everyone think??????
