WHEN Port Melbourne defeated the Box Hill Hawks by three points in the VFL semi-finals last year, the match was quickly hailed a classic. People talked about it for weeks.
Hard to believe, but the same clubs today fought out a semi of the same gold standard.

It was never less than engrossing right up until the final siren, which sounded with the ball on the Port half forward line.

Moments earlier little Hawk Jayden Hoegel had produced a right-foot snap from a pack of players to send his team six points in front. It had looked like there would have to be extra time to separate the sides.

The Port players left the ground carrying the retired Corey McGrath on their shoulders and with their hearts in the boots.
