BAD luck does come in threes, just ask Box Hill coach Marco Bello.
For a third straight week, Box Hill coughed up a handy three-quarter time lead and lost.
First it was to Essendon at Windy Hill, then Richmond at Punt Road and, on Saturday, it was to Footscray at the Whitten Oval.
The Hawks were 31 points ahead at the final change and fell by five points, 10.13 (73) to 10.8 (68). The loss was the Hawks’ seventh on the trot leaving them two games out of the top eight, behind Essendon.
Bello said it was a shattering defeat for his side, which has lost six games by less than 16 points, four by less than a goal.
“It is gut wrenching because you hope you learn from those experiences,’’ he said.
“We reviewed them, looked at them closely and at what we needed to do better when we got in that situation again.
“The good thing is we’re at least putting ourselves in a situation to win games but sometimes it’s more mental than the physical attributes because I thought our effort was good but we let ourselves down at times and during those times catastrophic failures ended up in four or five goals.”
