AFL clubs have overwhelmingly rejected a push for a mid-season draft that was proposed earlier this season by senior Hawthorn recruiter Chris Pelchen.

While the proposal received some strong support from key industry commentators, the bid for a June draft, which would have allowed clubs to fill gaps in their playing lists and promoted footballers from second-tier competitions such as the VFL, received little support.

''There's no move afoot to bring in a mid-season draft,'' said the AFL's football operations manager Adrian Anderson. ''It was one of a number of topics we put to the clubs towards the end of the season and it was not something that had many mainstream supporters.''
