I feel like something important died today.....anyone else feel the same? Congrats to Werribee who fought bravely right to the end. I couldn't give a rat's about the other mob.

AJ it's the first time this Victorian competition has had a winner outside its borders. I think that's a bit of an indictment.

My dad and I had a tradition of going to every VFA/VFL Grand Final, and did not go this year.

I agree that it feels like a broken comp. I flicked on the ABC to see if there was any coverage of the game and they were doing the O&M GF...and it sounded like it had a real buzz about it. Something that we are missing, partly due to the lack of mainstream coverage, the lack of care by the body that now runs the comp.. How can a grand final not have a footy record. It's an insult to fans in my opinion.

$50 for a t-shirt seems a bit rich GC Suns!

* It's time to restore the VFA name.

NorthPort, it's the first time in years I haven't at least watched it live. We went to the ice hockey instead and I watched the VFL when we got home. Yeah the country leagues continue to do a great job. I've watched a heap of their grand final on live streams this year and every one seems to have a ripper atmosphere. I love Frankston, loved the old VFA, but this competition is rapidly losing me. I feel virtually no hope of ever seeing my club win a flag because it's just not a level playing field. If this Werribee team couldn't go all the way, I don't know how it will happen again. They are as well drilled and professional as any standalone team I've seen before. So when you combine that lack of hope with abysmal facilities like at Richmond, North, Collingwood, Essendon......lack of basic facilities, no records, little to no game day entertainment aside from the match, last minute fixturing......there is very little to like about it. No metro or country league is as poorly organised or run as the VFL. And now our premiership is being won by Queensland teams? Hmm, how do we recruit more members when this is all we have to offer them?

The following clubs have folded in Gold Coast

Rugby League- Gold Coast seagulls 1990-1995, Gold Coast Chargers 1996-1998. Current team is average at best.

Soccer- Gold Coast United 2009-2012 folded in the National League

Basketball- Gold Coast Blaze 2007-2012

AFL- Brisbane Bears at Carrara 1987-1992 (Brisbane bears were more of a circus than a football team)

Trots- Parklands 1998-2013, Gold Coast Queen Street 1976-1988

Greyhounds- Parklands 1998-2013, Gold Coast Queen Street 1976-1988

There is no current venue for trots or greyhounds in the Gold Coast

Gold Coast suns have never been in the AFL finals.

Yes the GC is a sporting graveyard and will always be as the area is a resort town build for tourism and the AFL made a massive mistake in not bringing the established Southport Club who as least represent a proper city!

The AFL would have poured at least $300+ million into the GC Suns over the last 15 years for what?

Southport sharks an established footy club should have been in the afl rather than gold coast. Interesting stats with all the sporting club in gold coast that have folded. How much money has the afl pumped into GWS, gold coast and AFLW? I have been thoroughly enjoying watching the grass roots footy finals over the past few weeks. Been very enjoyable. The best footy show on tv by a country mile is the local footy show on ch31.

Some of the local grand finals I have gone to have had crowds bigger than the gold coast v werribee game.
