Body:
Clear skies and only the slightest breeze tonight for our clash with the Swans. Hoping for a reasonable crowd tonight but with Sydney playing Carlton at the same time I doubt many will make the journey. Plus there's an art exhibit running across the street in Beauty Park so the lack of parking will put a lot of people off.
Big game for us. A win tonight means we move past last year's win record. With Vossy and Mynott back into the team I've got some real hope we'll get up.
Your predictions of a modest crowd appear astray, just going by the livestream, looks very healthy AND loud
Yep it's a much larger crowd than I anticipated.
another great win for the Dollies - in third place as of tonight?
Currently sitting 4th according to the VFL app. Probably won't be that high after the round is done with Geelong and Southport likely to jump us, but we'll be well inside the top 10.
Important milestone for us tonight, as we've now surpassed last year's win record with not even half the season played. And as we get into probably the toughest part of our fixture (away games against Southport, Werribee, and Brisbane within our next four games) I'm happy to have banked wins against GWS and Sydney. Tough few matches coming up but if we can pinch a win from one of these away games I'll be content.
Not hyping us up as a finals side yet, but our form so far has me starting to think it's plausible.
We're fourth Wal, but who's counting? Hand us the cup now! Hahaha
UpTheDolphins......2008 is a long time to wait......but you just never know.....dare to dream!
Big congrats to Frankston’s Matty Johnson who kicked the club’s 100th behind for the season tonight (Frsnkston have now kicked 65-101 for the season).
great win though
Imagine how good we'll be when we learn to kick Robbo!
Frankston 5-2 win loss is its best start to a season since 1999
How good was Taj?? 19 tackles last night -unbelievable. Very high disposal efficieny too.. Murphy and Grey now among the VFL elites..both superb again. Boys would have to be confident of an upset in Southport next week.
Great to see an optimistic buzz around Frankston !
We might be from the bush. but we ain't green
Digs, we haven't had a lot to cheer about for.....oh, about 16 years! We're making the most of it for now!
Bearsman, totally agree, Taj was brilliant.....ferocious, tenacious, composed.
I could wax lyrical about a few blokes - Angus Grant, for a small ruckman is growing more and more at ease in the role. Was outstanding last night as a marking option too. Lochie Reidy and Nick Burke are providing good targets across half forward and deliver well inside 50. Our defence......Smith, Barlow, Williams, Voss, Milne, Stainthorpe.....aside from the Geelong debacle, these blokes are giving up an average of about 50 points a match, which is bloody incredible. Johnson, Butland and Sharp are providing great targets up forward - and Gown to come back ....the future is bright.
Southport next week is a massive test of how good we really are though - can't wait to see it.
I'm loving the results down at Frankston. I'm on the bandwagon, hoping that the excitement and experience gained from the first half of the season is really something to build on in the lead up to finals.
* It's time to restore the VFA name.
Anyone have any updates on Josh Smith? Disappointingly no details have been released by the club as far as I can tell.
Hopefully thats the last we will see of Luke Parker...
NorthPort......this isn't the first talented team we've had at Frankston.....always it has been about the psyche of the group. Thus far, Jackson Kornberg has these boys believing in themselves, and they are starting to show they can match it with anybody if they play their game. I can only imagine these last two weeks (beating AFL clubs) have done wonders for that. What we need to stop is the kind of blowout that happened at Geelong. That's the bad old Frankston, losing the plot quickly and dropping their heads. Southport next weekend will test their mettle, so we'll see. But yeah, it's pretty exciting stuff at the moment.
Bearsman, I haven't heard squat about Josh's condition as yet. The only mention of the incident at the club on Saturday was that we're not gonna talk about it. I suspect legal action is being considered. Hope Josh is ok, he was a bit of a mess afterwards.
Terrible news for Josh..Paul Amy posted this today. Hope the club goes on with Parker. Grub.
I've seen footage of the hit in question and it really doesn't look good. Smith was practically jogging toward the contest (which was basically out of frame by the time the hit occured) and Parker hits him so hard that I cannot seriously buy the excuse of "shepard gone wrong" that some Swans fans are using.
No way was this a shepherd or any football act. It was talked about today on Fox footy with enhanced video showing the collision in close up. Josh was not involved in the play - he was about 15 metres from the ball jogging, Parker ran back past the footy, lined up Josh from about 20 meteres away then ran at him and picked him off. Smith had no idea it was coming, you could see clearly he was watching the play and had no chance to brace for the impact or protect himself.
Jon Ralph said he spoke to the club, and Josh will most likely miss the rest of the season. He has multiple facial fractures and concussion, and will have to undergo several operations to repair the damage.
There is a precedent from a few years ago when a Preston player broke Bailey Lambert's jaw in a practice match and I think but not sure, that he got 6 weeks, and Lambert was back playing in around 6 weeks. This is much much worse than that one, and given the AFL's policy on head injuries and concussion Parker should get a very lengthy holiday.
He's been sent straight to the tribunal on Monday night.
Considering Josh Smith is more than likely going to miss out on work and a significant amount of income due to his injuries, I'd hope Parker gets the book thrown at him. AFL players will be looked after by their clubs but for state league footballers who have jobs outside of football, injuries like this can have even worse consequences for them.
if that incident happened in an AFL game with the sycophantic media all over it, Parker would be out for a long stretch, because it happened in a VFL match I just wonder if it will not taken quite so seriously, playing the devil's advocate, i hope not - he should have the book thrown at him despite him being frustrated running around in the VFL when he wants to be playing AFL
Luke Parker sent straight to tribunal
Graded as Carelss - High Contact - Severe Impact
looking at a minimum 5 game ban
I cant get my head around the social media crap trying to suggest Josh Smith is incompetent as a player and if he had braced himself for contact that nothing would have happened. Multiple facial fractures happens how??? So angry!!!
Swans are pushing for a sanction below 4 games. Have unironically argued that the length of Parker's career and the lack of repeat offences over that time should be a factor (AKA the good bloke defence)
Luke Parker suspended for 6 games
Good......this was a petulant act from a fading star who was frustrated that he had no impact on the game. Lucky he didn't cop 8, the grub.
Now we are left with a gaping hole in our backline. The last thing we needed was to lose a big body. A lot will depend on Max Williams and Joe Lloyd will really need to step up. They might use Angus more in the back half as he has played CHB in the past. Newnes can also play back if needed. Might be a good time to try a younger guy - McManus showed promise as a key defender last year, and maybe Davies could be tried as a defender if they are fit.
Putting Davies in the backline might be a worthwhile idea. The closest he's gotten to playing this year has been as an emergency in one or two games, so perhaps he'll struggle to get a look with how imposing our forward line is this year.
Does anybody know the make up of the VFL tribunal ?. Hope it is not made up of ex AFL duds.
Great to see the Tribunal make a statement regarding the status of the comp & not bow down to the AFL heirarchy.
Gotta feel for the victim who would be entitled to seek further compensation being unable to Eat drink probably not work for some time.
We might be from the bush. but we ain't green
Sydney are appealing Luke Parker 6 game suspension
If he gets his suspension reduced it'll be a bigger joke than Cripps getting off in 2022.
... and Barry Hall.
