The vfl might release the fixtures 2 days before the season commences. Every footy league in Australia has fixtures well and truly organised for 2025 except with the vfl. That is appalling. Not good enough. It is now February 16.

Apparently that'll be Channel 7's timeslot instead of Sunday arvo.

I think it's a good idea for the VFL to explore more night games. There's no decent timeslot that doesn't clash with the AFL, but at least night games generally don't clash with local or junior footy. Hopefully it gets a few more eyeballs on the VFL.

I'm less happy about most - or possibly all of them - being at Port Melbourne. I get that you can only televise night games at grounds that have adequate facilities, but if North Port Oval has the exclusive rights then either Port Melbourne benefit from the best timeslot (regardless of their on-field quality) or clubs have to give up home games to get televised.

Hopefully at least a few of these Saturday night broadcasts happen down at Frankston.

under the new TV agreement, Ch7 will not be televising AFL games on a Saturday at all so VFL games may be a possibility, would be good promotion for the comp as folk without Foxtel/kayo would be a captive market - there is a precedent, Willi played Richmond at Punt Road in a final a few years back on a Saturday night that was televised by Ch7 - i remember the lights going out in the third quarter

I'm kinda new to the VFL, is this normal?

It's strange that there's nothing regarding the fixture on the VFL/AFL site. No updates or info at all about the upcoming regular season other than a start date and the Tassie thing. You'd expect at least a heads-up to the fans about it when other state leagues have had a fixture for weeks.

I've actually joined your forum just to vent about this. We see all these Practice Matches, but seriously, who are our clubs practicing to play against?? The utter disrespect shown to the VFL and its fans by the AFL is beyond a joke these days. The 'Season Dates' article said they would release the fixture in 'early 2025'. To me, that's probably by late-Jan. If there's a few scheduling issues with AFL clubs, then just list those as TBC, and release the rest. I don't see what the hard part is.

OK, that's out of my system now. Go Burgers!

I like the concept of the VFA/VFL playing games Saturday night on Channel 7. It's tough for clubs that have games shifted away from their home grounds though.

I'd prefer to see Frankston and Port Melbourne play at home under lights, with a couple of interstate games thrown in.

I thought the Saturday night Kayo/Foxtel exclusivity was only until round 8 of the AFL season. Am I wrong, and it is in fact all home and away season?

* It's time to restore the VFA name.

No arguments on this one. More publicity and access is good for the VFL. Better than 10am games to satisfy the AFL clubs.
