You are a little bit 'doom and gloom' in your appraisal of the clubs position there MegaA.

I will agree however regarding the club no longer being a destination club, however I'm not sure that is still a thing generally... And that could just be a reflection of the state the competition is in.

The loss in revenue (which I believe was done for the right reason) could make or break us. But the club needs to focus on other ways to promote the club.  Could you imagine the club having a couple of players (in club jumpers) handing out flyers at each of the Melbourne CBD train stations and Port Melbourne light rail stops during peak times?  If you were willling to sell $10-$20 memberships for the season (without voting rights in the first year). I reckon you would significantly boost membership...

Spiny, I don't mind seeing Van Es up forward.  I'm really unsure how we are going to get our balance right, and perhaps change our game style going forward to mitigate having a genuine FF / HFWD option.

Badly written post will.correct the grammar when I have a moment besides being from Port I have e excuse

i should if elaborated on that comment spiny and rephrased it as good sides don't necessarily take time to build. We often see.sides lose a good quantity of players but are right back up.there the following season due to strong recruitment; we see that in sports the world over and closer to home we saw examples of it during the Ayres era. To state the obvious if taking a new young inexperienced side that has talent then j whole heartedly agree that takes times albeit very reliant on retention of those players.

As for the onnited forwards this is entirely my guess- we are trying to address the fkrward line make-up by trying out players who have little experience in that area to see how they go. The reason an early on I would imagine is to give those performing another opportunity in other practice games and those not to be used elsewhere in practice matches.

Yeah, that makes sense Mega. Werribee seem set to rise back up the ladder this season in the way you mention.... That would also be a logical explanation for the forwards who weren't selected - hope it is the correct explanation rather than injuries.

NorthPort, I'm happy to see Van Es up forward as well - more skeptical of Highmore playing there, but given that the defence did stand up without him and that as you say it's not clear how we'll manage up forward this season, perhaps I shouldn't be. Right now it's just an experiment in a practice game, so may as well give it a try.

You are right Northport I am abit negative at the moment, I guess I am used to the Port that would get off the canvas immediately. Their was a time I was the most optimistic supporter you could find but I can't see current circumstances changing fast (on and off field). I agree targeting locals is the way to go - with the cost of living being what it is the vfl is a affordable few hours of entertainment (the best state based soccer competition the npl charges double for tickets, I bought a standard membership for 280 last week, the equivalent vfl membership is only $80). Regarding the REX I would have thought it more appropriate to get other regular sources of income and then consider selling it off rather than sell it and now look for income sources later.

Spinny one of the players you asked about was Clarke, I've found out he is carrying a injury which I believe is only minor.

Thanks for the info on Clarke, Mega. Good at least that it seems to be only a minor injury. Hope he's right to go for round 1.

Does anyone know if tomorrow's praccy match against Willy will be livestreamed?

Clarke and Green both named this week - interesting to see Clarke named to the midfield, but then again we do need more midfield options in case of injury, and McCartney seems to like trying small forwards in the midfield. It does look like he's using these matches to try out various possible setups. I saw on Facebook that Hird's being rested, so presumably no injury there. Lugsdin named this week, so the only confirmed new signing we won't have seen yet is Chatfield. Still no Manton or Lloyd. Would really like to see Lloyd nail down a spot in the best 23 - he did need to improve his fitness last season, but he's hard at the ball and tackles like he means it.

Willy have named Braydon Preuss in their side, so Sam Grant will have his work cut out for him. All the names in this week's side are accounted for in the list changes thread. Hopefully the full list will be posted on the club website after Monday's jumper presentations, but I'm definitely concerned now that we may be going into the season with only two rucks, one of whom (Penry) has yet to make his competitive debut.

Spiny I went to the game yesterday and a reliable source told me that ports list is full. I guess after tomorrow's night jumper presentation we will have the full.list published online?

Apologies Spiny good chance my reliable source has been misled - apparently Macca said during the jumper presentation that there is still around 5 spots left.

Okay, thanks for the update, Mega. I've got 40 names in the other thread - perhaps the Withers who played the first practice game isn't an official signing. Hope we manage to find rucks and key forwards soon - bit concerning that it's taking this long. It does sound like the market for rucks is tight right now. Perhaps the coaching staff should go to grocery stores looking for tall people since that's where Balwyn's recruiter found Jimmy Miller...!
