GEELONG'S VFL side can secure a finals berth with victory over the sixth-placed Northern Bullants at Preston today.
Cats coach Dale Amos says a finals appearance would be a boost to the fleet of injured Cats eyeing a senior recall.
Geelong sits in seventh spot after a run of six wins, but come up against a near-full strength Bullants side, who are aligned with Carlton.
"They play very similar to Carlton in that they move the ball quickly," Amos said.
The Cats will be boosted by the return of Ryan Gamble, who will be used both in attack and the midfield.
"When (Gamble's) played well he's been as influential as anyone in the VFL so we like having him pretty close to the action," Amos said.
"His workrate has been really good when he's been in (the midfield) and he's still been able to kick goals as well."
Kane Tenace, dropped from the AFL side, is travelling to Sydney as an emergency for tonight's match.
Geelong sits two games clear of ninth-placed Sandringham and is one match off fourth.
A finals presence in the VFL will allow Mark Thompson to test players returning from late-season injuries as well as offer cover should the Cats suffer more casualties.
"There's a definite value of us being in the finals," Amos said.
"Especially with (senior) injuries and guys potentially coming back."
Today's match will be televised live on ABC TV, 1pm.
