FRANKSTON coach Simon Goosey said his young side "forgot to work hard" was punished by North Ballarat.

"We were only down 10 percent, but it made the world of difference," he said after the Dolphins lost by 31 points.

Goosey thought his players may have gone into the game over-confident after a couple of wholehearted performances against Sandringham and Williamstown.

"The boys have been really good against some top eight sides and I think we finally got to play one of the sides in the bottom five and the boys rolled up thinking, 'let's go out and just win the game'," he said.

"And they forgot to really work hard."

At Ballarat's Eureka Stadium, Frankston trailed 5.4 to 1.2 at quarter-time and never threatened.

Co-captain Mitch Bosward tried to rally his side with a feisty performance.

There was an injury scare when star forward Khan Haretuku hurt his shoulder early in the last term, but Goosey said it was only a "stinger" and he would be fine to play against Collingwood this Sunday.

But the Dolphins will be without exciting youngster Corey Buchan after he tore his hamstring.

He faces three or four weeks on the sidelines.
