POTENTIAL senior opportunities clearly inspired Geelong's reserves players as they pulled off a stunning upset win against reigning VFL premier North Ballarat.

Trent West starred for the Cats in their 12.10 (82) to 10.13 (73) victory at Ballarat's Eureka Stadium, outpointing gun Roosters ruckman Orren Stephenson and providing a dangerous option when he moved forward.

Given Geelong's injury troubles with its key forwards Tom Hawkins, Cam Mooney and James Podsiadly, West could be rewarded with selection in the Cats' seniors for their clash against Essendon on Saturday.

Forward turned defender Ryan Gamble could also be in line for a call up after again rating among the best players, while rookie key forward Ben Johnson booted four goals and played his best game of the season.
