GEELONG will blood three new players in its VFL side when the Cats take on Coburg this afternoon.

Former Geelong Falcons teammates Kane Smith (Lara) and Sam Hughes (Leopold) have been rewarded for their excellent starts to the season at local level with a spot in the Cats' line-up to take on the Tigers at Coburg City Oval.

Cats rookie-listed player Bryn Weadon will also make his VFL debut.

Several of the team had a light training session at Skilled Stadium yesterday.

VFL coach Dale Amos said there was some encouraging signs from the side's opening round loss to Collingwood last weekend.

"We played 12 top up players last week and we'll play a few more this week and each week we should get better at what we do," Amos said.
