IT IS strange to think that at 27 years of age Williamstown Football Club’s Brett Johnson is a veteran.
The captain of the VFL club has had an extensive and varied playing career, starting with 28 games with Swan Districts in the West Australian Football League, four years and 32 games at Hawthorn in the AFL, two years and 38 games with Carlton and three years with Williamstown in the VFL – two as captain.
Just to repeat - he is only 27.
Veteran in status maybe, but Johnson is still a performer.
He won joint best and fairest last year with 22-year-old Liam Picken who was later rookie listed by the Western Bulldogs.
So when Johnson sees young guns like Picken shipping off to the AFL ranks, does it make him dwell on his own past at the elite level?
“No, I had a great time,†he said of his AFL career.
