Tasmania Devils 2020

Any word on the clubs license for next year? There was supposed to be an announcement about 3 weeks ago.

I see they have a 'commitment' from 46,000 supporters to become members. I wonder how many would get along to VFL games.

A lot going on behind the scenes in Tassie footy. There isn't going to be a decision on the VFL team now until the Taskforce on an AFL Team in Tassie (led by Brett Godfrey) hands down their report to the state govt in December.

G'day Paul, thanks for the update Paul and congratulations with Glenorchy, top 3 across Seniors, DL and Womens League.  Looks like the club is ticking along quite nicely!

If the decision isn't until December it's hard to see Tassie being admitted in 2020.  Normally the fixure is already out by then.  Hard to put a list (and entire club) together in the space of only a few months.  2021 looks likely.

Reckon 2021 more likely but would great if the devil's were back in 2020. The vfl fixtures could be delayed until December if need to.

AFL Tas has a provisional licence to enter a VFL team from 2021 onwards, so any decision in December will be for then at the earliest. There are lots of different opinions from footy people around the state, a number are worried on the player drain from having an extra team.

However for me that's a short-term issue that can be addressed, in the long-term Tassie footy desperately needs an incentive to keep good young players in the sport and in the state. A VFL team would give this and give, for the first time in a long time here, a realistic pathway from grassroots footy to the AFL in Tasmania, so I think it's worth doing.

Tassie needs to have a team in the VFL. They should not have been booted out in the first place from the VFL. Not sure of the politics or reason for booting them out but the devils were great for the VFL comp. I am sure that they would have eventually tasted premiership success if they stayed in the VFL. They did make it to a Prelim losing to the zebras.
Looks like it will be 2021 as the year the devils will return. I remember watching a young and raw but skilful and enthusiastic Jack Riewoldt running around for the Tassie Devils.

The rain they left the competition is that they needed to either put money into the Devils or revamp the Tassie comp (s).  They didn't have the funds to do both. That was my understanding.
