VFL season in jeopardy

At least the standalone clubs could play each other.

Interesting to see what happens in all the local leagues Australia wide. Some could be postponed, suspended, have shorter seasons. Could be a mixed bag. With the vfl there are games that don't get 500 people through the gates and other do. Could be played with no crowds except for club officials, players, staff and coaches. Victoria park which is open and Collingwood olympic park training ground and arden street have no fence. Not sure what will happen. Maybe they will suspend all local footy for April with a wait and see. Look for daily updates on sport and everything in general. Catching public transport to and from work daily on a packed train is probably the worst.

Prepare for a year of no VFL or local footy. Its a certainty that the precious AFL clubs will abandon the VFL and the AFL boof heads wont think twice about calling the season off. Consequences could be dire for the VFA clubs, especially Frankston.

There is a meeting tomorrow morning of all the Vic local leagues to decide what they will do.

Richmond have chosen to suspend their VFL program And will not likely participate in 2020 season

2020 season looking highly unlikely

Big news. Other afl teams in vfl will probably follow. Might end up with 5 vfa clubs playing in 2020.

How many teams minimum would we need for a comp to go ahead? 8 ? 10 would be preferable of course as it allows each club to play one another twice for a 18 round season.

Cutting the lists to 40 players has not assisted for the composite sides, if the AFL clubs pull their players nearly all alligned clubs wont have enough players to field a side. The only solution in such a scenario would be for allignments to use top up players for the season but at this late stage im not sure if thats practicle.

Then theirs the issue of grounds, AFL clubs will most likely not want VFL clubs using their ground which minimises venues.

As of yesterday the league announced that they intended for the comp to be played - that of course could change any minute.

A few issues to work through - watch this space!

Still a few weeks away before the vfl season starts. Spot on mega things could change quickly. At the moment season is on. Whether all teams participate is another matter. Local footy more likely to be on especially the minor leagues. Paul what is the situation in Tassie with their footy as they are less affected at the moment. Very strange what has happened as this is world wide. Spain complete lockout just like Italy.

Robbo where did you hear about Richmond vfl ? Can you please post link.

Things are changing rapidly as we all know.but with AFL aligning clubs expecting to pull the VFL programs. Which would only leave the 5 vfl standalone clubs and there won't be a competition if that happens.

I would be preparing for no VFL in 2020. What that means for the future no one knows?
