Thank you! I have spoken with some clubs this morning and most believe an announcement will be made today or early next week.

No media release so far. Not looking likely that it will be announced today.

Welcome to the forum Queenslander, I hope you enjoy your stay. Out of curiosity which team do you support ? I am going to guess Southport based on 3 things
- You are a Queenslander
- Your new to the forum which would suggest that perhaps you have come on board due to the upcoming changes (NEAFL and VFL amalgamation).
- And as theirs hardly any AFL supporters who come to this forum and its much more the stand alone supporters I am going to go with the most popular side in Queensland other than the AFL clubs

Am i correct ? Is it time to call me Sherlock Holmes or do i stick to my day job ?

Thank you! I am actually a Gold Coast Suns member! I would be support the Suns (and Southport) both GC teams in the VFL.

Speaking of, the AFL has now delayed the announcement until after the Grand Final although teams have been offered licences already.

Apparently it would be a 16 round competition commencing the weekend of ANZAC Day. Read into that what you wish. Maybe only 15 teams? Maybe it involves a conference system of Northern vs Victorian Conferences?

St Kilda and Sandringham, Box Hill and Hawthorn both are continuing their alignment.. as does Casey/Melbourne.

Word is that Richmond are looking to align with someone too.

Looking like around 20 teams involved

Full announcement delayed until After AFL Grand Final

Along with Gold Coast, Sydney, Brisbane and GWS I believe Southport, Aspley and Sydney Uni are the clubs tha maybe coming from old NEAFL

Queenslander I am guessing your no 1 side would be Southport then as the Southport is older than the Suns? What sort of a following does Southport get ?

16 rounds isn't many - I hope they revert back to 18 rounds in the future. They may have opted with 16 due to minimising travelling expenses. My guess would be that the stand alone sides will do minimal interstate travelling with the bulk of the travel made up by the AFL clubs with perhaps some fixtures being played as curtain raisers to their 1sts playing to ease the burder. ie both AFL reserves and 1sts playing against other AFL reserves and 1sts. Interesting times ahead.

I was mightily impressed when I travelled up to the Southport Sharks ground to find they actually had Sharks in tanks there. We knocked off the Gold Coast in their first season in the VFA/VFL before joint the AFL.

Surely the season should be extended to everyone playing each other once which would be more like 21 rounds.
