we were told that by Frankston CEO at our weekly members night tonight
Robbo You wouldn't think that the AFL/AFL Victoria would be the stupid - then again!
It dosent need Victoria in the name the most sensible is the East Coast League.
Fair dinkum, You could not believe that unbelieveable decision. Who are these people ?
Can you imagine for one minute that if SA were involved the uproar about all things Victorian.
We might be from the bush. but we ain't green
Even given the AFL's long history of poor/bad decisions - this is staggering... I wonder why it took them three months to come up with it?
An unbelievable insult to the other states forming the new league.
I had heard it might be called the VEAFL, which I think would be ok. I support it still being called the VFL though, of the 22 teams I think 19 of them have some form of history in the VFA/VFL, most of them significant history, so in my mind it's not really a new comp.
I too am happy to have it called the VFL if that is what it is. After all the VFL were happy to keep playing in the comp as it was - it was the NEAFL sides that disolved the league and then decided to join the VFL - these clubs are joining the VFL not the other way around. Having said that i think its more appropriate to have the league called EFA - which seems to also be the general concensus among fans as evident by the most successfull of polls (in terms of votes) on this site in several years.

THE VFLS MOST SUCCESSFUL CLUB - THE MIGHTY PORT MELBOURNE BOROUGH!
I'M PORT MELBURNE BORN, I'M PORT MELBOURNE BRED, I'LL BE PORT UNTIL I'M DEAD!!!
I would rather the VFL name than some other abbreviated senseless name.
I think a better name would have been AFA (Australian Football Association) which would be closer to the old VFA name.
Still no fixtures ? I am not sure if many fixtures are out in the various Leagues.
At Port training session I was told that most likely the league is holding off as long as possible before releasing the fixture *waiting to see what happens with border closures* etc etc. If the person telling me is correct then we won't have a fixture for a couple of months.
Please note this was not from a official source, just a hunch somebody had - they could be way off the mark. I don't see this as a good explanation though as the AFL has already released their fixture- my guess would be before the end of the month.
I suspect that keeping the VFL name indicates that the new teams are only going to be in temporarily, until a new 2nd tier structure can be set up in NSW, Qld and NT post-Covid.
Why would they abandon the Neafl in the first place if they're going back to the same sort of model???,doesn't make sense to me
We are an unofficial VFA / VFL website made up of long time and new supporters of clubs from the Victorian Football Association (now Victorian Football League)..
