VFL not allowing Dolphins practice match?

Wondering if anyone has further insight into this.....the Dolphins were scheduled to play a night game this coming weekend against Frankston Bombers......would have been very interesting to see one of the MPNFL's better sides taking on the VFL team (and with the Bombers having a number of ex-Dolphins on their list), but it seems the VFL have scuttled the idea due to some crap about exposure to covid by playing a team outside of the league. Surely not?

I might question the value for the Dolphins of playing a game of this nature, but it would be interesting to watch. I just hope if it has been scuttled we can find a decent opponent for the weekend.

The Dolphs wouldn't get a lot out of it given the huge difference in standard, but if this is true, for the VFL to call it off due to COVID risk is ridiculous. Some of these players would be friends off the field, it's not like the Dolphs are living in a bubble!

What happens to the dolphins listed players that don't make the side and go on to play in their nominated non vfl side ? Does covid ignore them in that scenario but choses to be contagious if the whole side plays against a non Vfl side ? Sounds so illogical that it's hard to believe the legitimacy of this story.

I did hear it from someone within the club......a facebook invite to the game had gone out to members, and then suddenly disappeared. I was at the club for something else and asked the question and was given that answer. I agree with both of you for the record.....can't see what we would have gained from the match other than a bit of PR, and yes MegaA, these blokes probably socialise daily, some possibly even live together. Crazy stuff.

The game was pulled as there is a rule that VFL clubs are not allowed to play opposition that are lower standard in a practice game. AFL says it is a player safety risk nothing to do with COVID. Frankston now have this weekend off.

The AFL? What has it got to do with the AFL? We're not an aligned club......and I stand to be corrected but won't some of our players actually play FOR these so called lower standard clubs when not selected for the Dolphins?
