Disappointingly it has been confirmed by Channel 7 that the 2026 VFL season will not be broadcast this year.
It is believed that the cost one a major factor in the decision. A petition has been created on Change.org seeking another Free to air broadcaster to pick up the rights to the VFA /VFL.

So they dump the VFL onto their crappy second channel that nobody cares about, open the season with the most predictable demolition job in history, then give up after a year. Brilliant work.
This is going to hurt clubs if another broadcaster isn't found. Sponsors won't be willing to pay as much if their name will never be on TV. And what does this mean for the Grand Final? Is it seriously going to be on par with local footy leagues in terms of the production quality?
Anyone hear Phil Cleary on 3AW this 'arvo? He said Ch7 and the AFL have had a major falling-out over something, allegedly
That’s why clubs last year shouldn’t have kicked up a stink when channel 7 wanted to play all tv games at one venue in a attempt to keep costs down - now because of the tantrums thrown we get nothing instead of something.

Right, it's our fault for rejecting the arrangement that would have disproportionately benefitted your club by running all TV games out of your venue.
Yeop - it’s the fault of the complaining clubs - now we get nothing, I said it a year ago - if they can’t keep costs down they’ll get rid of coverage all together and that’s what happened. Who it benefits is irrelevant, the bottom line is money talks and in this case the lack of money due to being forced to play at a variety of venues has caused a cancellation of tv coverage. Should have taken what was given rather than sulking and facing the consequences a year on.

Never heard any issues with Channel 7 using grounds like Frankston when it was Sunday afternoon coverage. Also you're seriously going to argue that Whitten Oval and Princes Park were too far for Channel 7?
Stop pretending that every TV has to be played at your ground to be worthwhile and just admit your club was trying to put itself above the rest of the league.
You think that Port Melbourne has that much say over channel 7 that they somehow convinced them to cover all games from Northport ? May be hard for you to believe but Port no longer has the influence that it once did and has very little if any at all say in league and tv matters. I suppose you also think that all games for the first few years of ABCs coverage were from Port because Port influenced the coverage ? Ironically nobody kicked up a fuss back then and as such we enjoyed ABC match day coverage for a quarter of a century.

Frankston on tv is a much better atmosphere and presentation the fans actually get into it. You don’t get that in port the suburb has lost it’s soul
Would the city council have been any more amenable to night games if they'd all been played at North Port Oval, or were they going to be any more accepting of night games there this season? If I'm recalling correctly, last season they refused any more night games after midseason (though I think there was one more Port Melbourne night game at home).
