Troy Makepeace
Body:
Just noticed on the VFL website Troy Makepeace signs with Casey Scorpions The Casey Scorpions have made one of the most significant signings of the TRUenergy VFL pre-season, locking in former Kangaroo Troy Makepeace as a playing assistant coach for the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Makepeace has been a key component of the Kangaroos backline in recent seasons and brings the experience of 139 AFL games to the club. At only 27 years of age the highly-skilled left-footer has plenty of good football in front of him. Last week Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson, discussing the pre-season draft, said: ``Unfortunately for a guy like Troy Makepeace, who we rate enormously as a player, in terms of our recruiting model he falls out of the mix simply because of his age.'' The 2006 AFL media guide described Makepeace as ``arguably the Roos' most consistent player'', noting he ``rarely puts a foot wrong in defence and reads the play superbly''. Casey coach Peter Banfield said the signing of Makepeace was one of the most important steps the club formerly known as Springvale had made as it puts down roots at Casey Fields. ``We have a young list and Troy's experience will give us a lift on and off the ground,'' he said. Makepeace will be returning to his grassroots after playing with the Scorpions-aligned Gippsland Power in the TAC Cup. He has family and friends in the Casey and Gippsland region.
