Tigers Get a Taste of AFL
A group of Werribee players are hoping to become the latest to take the increasingly popular path from TRUenergy VFL football to an AFL list after being invited to train with the Western Bulldogs.
Seven players from the Tigers’ 2006 list will join the Bulldogs’ pre-season training in the hope of being selected in the National, Pre-season or Rookie drafts for 2007.
The high number of invitees is a credit to both the players and the Tigers coaching staff to have such a big representation at the elite level.
The players are former Geelong Falcons trio James Allen, Sam Wormald and Jarrod Young, Werribee’s 2006 best and fairest winner Rob Castello, former Western Jet Wayde Twomey, Tasmania Devils recruit Brett Robinson and Harley Ryan from the Calder Cannons.
The increase in Rookie List places is a good sign for all TRUenergy VFL players looking to follow in the footsteps of Western Bulldog Dale Morris, who went from Werribee’s Reserves to playing for Australia in one season.
